On the CGI debate, I don't see how this isn't at least comparable to anything Blizzard was putting out around that time. Square Enix may not make games that impact me the same as Squaresoft did, but they're certainly continuing the legacy of excellent cutscenes.

The thing is Square Enix makes really good cutscenes too, but they are more on this well... anime side of it. They don't go for that strong realism Blizzard does so it looks kinda different.
