Starswirl actually predates Celestia and Luna, or atleast before they became princesses. It's still really vague as to how much the hearth's warming play is to true cannon or not. But aparently Discord hadn't come yet and the princesses weren't around.

We need our own pony history book.

If there was so much history before the gods came about then that could mean they were either born into the world through some crazy means, maybe they were created, or even got to that level. Discord could even be a unicorn that toyed with things transmutation if that is the case, but that might be taking too big of a leap.

Luna and Celestia being his apprentices might be possible as well. They have a lot of his teachings and spells on hand.

Eh, it was probably either a messed up translation for one of the dubs or in the manga (never read the manga myself so I wouldn't know) Either that or fans just made a joke about it due to how screwed up the "I still have another form to kick your asses with" was.

Also yes, I always pronounced memes and Me-Me until I saw the Yu-gi-oh abridged episode with Kaiba talking about them...

If we follow the concept that ponies that are born could be any of the three, it could also be possible, that if alicorns were once a pony race, she could be a very far descendent of an alicorn.

If we follow today's episode then she must have done something crazy.

If we follow "it's magic and I don't have to explain shit", then I have no idea.

Or it could be any combination of these three things.
