Sushi doesn't have to be fish though. But yeah, I agree that a lot of places overdo the rice.

Sushi is raw fish. You wouldnt eat raw pork. Why would you eat raw fish?

It is a type of sashimi, yes. Sashimi can also be beef, chicken, pork, etc. Yes, still raw. Fish is just one topping (albeit the most common) for sushi. Cucumber, rice and nori is still sushi, despite not having any meat. Egg on a ball of rice and wrapped with a strip of nori is still sushi. Fish is just the most common because it always has been, and probably always will be, a huge staple of the Japanese diet. Originally Posted by Kurumi
