10 Man Normal Sha of Fear

Hello, my guild has recently killed Lei Shi, leaving us with Sha of Fear. We only had about 2 hours of progression on it, but we are going back in there tonight and hopefully snagging a kill on him. I was wondering what helpful tips you guys can give? Anything would be greatly appreciated. From the quick hour or so of progression we had, something that became a problem was people would suddenly die on the main platform, possibly due to Erie Skull? We also are a little slow on the platforms and tanks would die due to Reaching Attack. If any of you play the dps class that is in our raid, what CD's would you use on the platform? Please give feedback here, not just "your guild is bad.. you cant kill sha! ect.." Thanks in advance! Sorry, we were not running WoL the night that we did this.

    Raid Setup:
    Tanks:
    -Blood DK
    -Prot Pally
    Healers:
    -Disc Priest
    -Resto Druid

    DPS:
    - Shadow Priest
    - BM Hunter
    - Aff Lock
    - Combat Rogue
    - Fury Warrior
    - Feral Druid

    -Bloodlust at beginning
-Save 3 minute DPS CDS for the pandas
-Download Sha of Fear Assist Addon
-Pick up orbs. Out of everything I said, this is the most important. Make sure the tank still picks up orbs during death blossom, and let a healer grab 1 every 7 seconds or so to refresh the mana buff.

IIRC, Eerie skull is unavoidable, just have to stay spread out for it. But the shadow bolts from the adds are avoidable.

What might have killed you all on the main platform a slow returning tank. If there is no one on the shiny circle when the sha does his fear its pretty much insta kill. Other than that follow turtles advice.
Also if you have the dps for it you can ignore the small adds on the main platform, its a big clusterfuck of circles towards the end but is doable with enough dps, but given that you struggle on platforms it most likely isnt a viable solution for you,

Firstly be patient, dont try to rush the fight, its going to be a long drawn out repetitive process so make sure your raiders are aware of this.

Secondly we stuck to simple tactics,
*When on the main platform in front of boss, the 3 dps will always nuke adds when they spawn and always focus the right add first, by doing this we found we would kill 1 add every breath which seemed just about right in terms of the speed of adds dying.
*When on the small platforms, the tank and healer were responsible for collecting orbs (dps would only do this if one was right next to them - the dps has to nuke the archer down fast hence dont want to disturb them too much), we also had a dps with a healer cd pop it about 60% on the add to help out the platform healer.
*We had our small platform teams nuke adds when they returned (due to dmg buff etc) and our other dps focus boss will cackle. We found this a great way of clearing adds fast and making sure we never got behind, this all depend son the dps of your raid etc.
    Keeping everyone happy is impossible.

i play as a disc priest, from that PoV there are some neat tricks.

spec into twist of fate, as a multi adds fight its a nice boost to numbers. dont be afraid to dps the adds, leave a SW:P on them too, to help proc the twist of fate. with twist of fate, it increases the attonement DPS, which increases healing done. thats kinda nice. also, when you come back from the platforms, the DPS increase buff makes massive healing from attonement. again, nice.

most of the time, binding heal and prayer of mending will be your priests friend.

make sure people get in the safe zone cone with the breath, once you guys get the knack of it, its a good fight

Sha of fear assist addon screwed us all up, most of us removed it, we got the kill last night without it (our first)

We had a 2% wipe, we didn't pick up all the orbs and they healed the adds for 10 mil, boss was at 5 mil when we wiped. PICK UP ALL THE ORBS. During death blossom your tank must pop a cd and grab all orbs. As the blood dk I use IBF. Your hunter and lock are awesome for grabbing orbs, they can both do half a platform, your healer should have the entrance half to regen mana. Tanks grab what everyone else misses. It is tough on the mdps and the spriest. Spriest needs to clip himself and help out, every orb heals for 700k, better to lose a little bit of dps and save a 700k heal from going off.

You need to balance dps between adds and boss, we had first team go to the platform and call out which way they went, dps on main platform then nuked the opposite side adds. returning group used fearless buff to clear the adds on the side they return on. Rinse and repeat. Don't screw up for 15 min. Once your prioritize grabbing orbs > kill panda > Kill terrors > kill boss (multi dot boss while burning terrors ofc) you will be fine.

WoL is of limited use as it only captures the half the raid you are with. ideally have both tanks or both heals logging for accurate view. Did i mention you need to pick up orbs? Log it and look for sha globes. Every 700k heal, smack someone on that platform until they get it right.

Others have said it but it bears repeating. Beating this fight means handling the platforms correctly. That means saving major dps CD's for them and don't slack on picking up orbs. If your players can consistently get back to the main platform before the next cackle then barring huge derps the boss is as good as dead.

As a prot pala I talent clemency and BoP the healer so they can still run around a bit on the platform during deathblossom. Thats about the only class specific advice I have.

Thanks everyone for the advice, we'll see how to goes tonight. I think its just a matter of our raiders not being afraid to use their 3-5 minute CD's on the platform to score the extra DPS that is required. I told our dot classes to always keep dots up on the boss, to help proc stuff and a dps boost, I'll link our raiders this page, and hopefully we can get a kill tonight!

Astro9866, look at skada/recount every time you wipe on a platform, find out who did what dps on that platform from someone that was there (the range thing), anyone under 4 mil needs to explain what they are doing. Don't be afraid to ask what 2-3 min cd they are saving for the platform, I kept hearing "we are using cds on time warp and forgetting to save one". Slap them, hard. Its an irritating fight, you need all 10 ppl working together, don't let one person slack off.

Ok, thanks for the info Slak!

Your Aff lock has a few tricks they can use....

Demonic portal inside the safe zone on the main platform allows them more time killing the adds if you are having any issues with those, if not it's a nice backup if they might not make it back for a breath.

On the outer platforms Kil'jaeden's cunning makes them great at grabbing orbs. Again if you are having trouble downing these adds in time the warlock can stay out and pop all defensive CDs for death blossom. It's very close to a 3min cd on when they will need to do this. Sometimes it arrives a few seconds too quick - make sure they know this can happen and don't stay out without cds.

At around 15% or so we usually stop DPS on the adds on the main platform and finish the boss off while avoiding the penetrating bolt. This point varies depending on your DPS and ability to dodge stuff, but it's normally fairly ok to spend at least a minute, maybe two doing this if you need the extra boss damage. If you are already 10 minutes into the fight at this point you also have a second bloodlust to burn through it.

Did you try changing it to orb collection rather than minimal movement? It makes it way easier to avoid Dread Spray. Dread Spray isn't exactly a major mechanic on normal, but you'll avoid DPS downtime to fears while still being able to collect all the orbs if used optimally. If people don't take damage from Dread Spray, your healer will be able to DPS more too.

    Main Platform
    • Avoid crap on the ground
    • Stay 3(?) yards apart
    • Don't get hit by breath
    • Kill adds (decide which side to kill first if that helps, but let multidotters just hit everything)
    • Save DPS CDs if you have problems on panda platforms

    Panda Platforms
    • Pick up orbs; if your healers need mana, they need to call it and people need to let the healer grab a bunch; otherwise, mainly ranged DPS grab orbs
    • Avoid Dread Spray (ShaOfFearAssist addon; set to orb collection)
    • CD through (call it out) Death Blossom to continue DPSing and grabbing orbs; otherwise LoS it with the pillars

Do the pandas right for 10m+ and you win. Prepot+Hero at the start to get a good burn in. Save DPS CDs for the platforms if necessary. Use raid CDs and personal CDs to DPS through Death Blossom: Spirit Shell, Tranq, Dispersion, Deterrence, Feint+CR, etc.

I was using Shaoffearassist, but then someone mentioned DreadSprayVR, and it is a lot better. It is easier to follow and a lot cleaner visually. Since it is a lot easier to follow, you wont have to stare at it so intensely and miss the actual fight. The platforms are what makes the fight, and handling the encounter in a way that is more comfortable for your guild is what needs to be done. If people are using the Fearless buff to kill adds, and you don't have trouble with dealing with adds so much, then try turning that DPS benefit on the boss and kill it quicker so there are less platforms to deal with. If you guys have trouble handling Death's Blossom because your DPS are squishy or there aren't any HoPs to go out, then LoS it entirely using the pillars around you. Have the tank run around and pick up orbs mainly so the DPS can sit in certain spots and burn the add as quickly as they can.
