    Design a subfaction

Make something like the explorer's league or Kor'kron that you feel your faction should already have, or would benefit from creating.

Can also work as elaborating on existing groups that lack a formal faction, like the Kargath soldiers for the Horde or the Gnomeragan Special Ops.

Subfactions need not necessarily serve an explicit purpose, and may just be a group lobbying for their own interests.

    My example:

Firemaw Clan: After the Siege of Orgrimmar, the remaining Warsong, Blackrock , Dragonmaw Orcs, and Garrosh supporters were devastated, and most were highly stigmatized by the rest of the Horde. In an attempt to stave off potential infighting, the new Warchief disbanded both clans and forged them into a single new entity, the Firemaw clan, and charged them with being the Horde's builders.

Because the new firemaw orcs had years of experience working with flame, constructing new settlements and repairing the damage done to Orgrimmar during the siege was child's play, and by aiding in the repairs some of the ill will they had garnered was dissipated.

The Firemaw clan is technically open to any race that wishes to join, existing as less of a traditional clan and more of a trade guild made up of outcasts. Firemaw magi and shaman use their skills to strengthen the craft of their forces, the Firemaw are often the first into warzones, setting up defensive lines from which the rest of Horde forces advance, and remaining behind to fortify early claims into great fortresses.

It's due to the Firemaw that Horde architecture has branched into two separate schools, that of wood and clay structures for civilian settlements, and the 'warsong' style heavy stone and metal structures that remain in Horde warmaking to this day.

Blood Knight Separatists. With the renewal of the Sunwell, many Blood Knights were humbled by the sacrifice of Mu'ru, and decided to throw away their past ideals and take up the tenets of the Holy Light. Some, however, were not phased, were not humbled. Some did not want to worship the light, which they believe abandoned them in their darkest hour. Now that the Sunwell is a fusion of arcane and holy magic, they no longer have subscribe to the Holy Light in order to use it's power. They believe faith in the Light is weakness, and wish to carve out a destiny for their people in their own way.

They won't be evil now that they aren't sucking the life from a Naaru, but they won't be your typical paladin archetype. "Blood Knight Separatists" is a pretty boring name, but I can't really think of anything cool at the moment.
