To be fair I don't understand why I do it either. I try to tell myself I'll never even initiate half of the conversations I imagine up but the brain just keeps chugging away irrationally.

Can't you just make that line of thought stop or something (especially if you want to just sleep)? I mean my mind used to try to get me to complain about past events shortly before going to bed, but I've found it increasingly easier to halt that with each passing day.

Maybe I'm just slowly becoming more insensitive.

I remember back when I took 30m showers. I still didn't do anything of the sort. I just focus on the washing and leave everything else for later.

Hell, I don't even understand why people like showers. Sure, they're a necessity and I really like being clean, but the process of cleaning oneself up is just tedious.

To be honest, I only really wash for a minute, and the 14 next minutes is just enjoying the warm water.

How does it take you so little time? I always fully wash myself (soap, shampoo and everything of the sort) and it never takes less than 12 minutes (5-6 for the body, 7ish for the head, and that's while rushing).

The explanation I initially thought of was that your mind is trying to find a way to cope with potential future events by giving itself (and, well, you) an idea of how to react in those situations.

That sounds somewhat reasonable as well. It's not dumb at all, but I do find it pretty strange, especially considering I'm generally the one who likes it when things are predictable.
