Computer Powerful Enough to run Skyrim on 42'' TV in 3D

    Hey all,

I have been saving up for a new computer, and just recently, I got my first HD TV, and it has a '3D' function. Now, I'm not asking whether or not playing a game in 3D is awesome, but what I am asking is in a general price range for a custom built PC, how much would it cost to build a computer powerful enough to run a heavily modded Skyrim (30 graphic mods, 50 entity adders) at 60 FPS on a 50 inch TV in 3D? Now I know that there can be very large price differences depending on where you buy parts, what kind of parts, etc, but mainly I want to know what I would be looking at for an investment like that. So far, I believe I would be able to build one that could accomplish that for about $800 using a rig like this:
    CPU: Intel Core i7 3700K
    GPU: nVidia GTX 600
    RAM: 16GB
    HDD: OCZ RevoDrive

Is this under powered? Did I get my figures wrong? Are there better alternatives? Etc.

    Thank you

It's not under-powered at all. 660ti and 3770k handles skyrim flawlessly, 8GB RAM would be more than enough for a heavily modded Skyrim and SSD's are always wise. You're good to go in my opinion. Myself have a 660 OC, 965 BE processor and 8GB ram, I have around 60fps, no frame drop at all when playing 40+ modded Skyrim on my 42" TV. I haven't tried it out in 3D but I hardly doubt it'll have any greater impact than it would on a 21.5" monitor.

    ---Edit---
This is how my modded skyrim looks at 60 FPS on 42" screen with my system, which is vastly inferior to what you plan to build.

I love DoF and I often go full on retard with it. You might not like it but at least you can see how heavily modded it is on my system and still running perfectly :>

OP, here's some information to learn and cherish!

42" TV at 1920x1080 doing 3D is EQUAL to a 21" Computer monitor at 1920x1080 doing 3D, in what a computer is having to render for them. The TV can be 100" and the monitor 10" but if they are both 1920x1080 doing 3D, they will both be equally taxing on the computer.

The only difference is usually computer monitors' screens look better, have far higher pixel density (thus things look more 'real' and you cannot see pixels at a certain pixel density, we can obviously still see pixels when we are close enough to a TV, but monitors also seem to be typically built to a higher standard.

HDMI cable wont able to run 3D at 1080p@60hz(60fps), so you have to choose between 1080p@24hz(24fps) or 720p@60hz(60fps)

Agree with you about pixel density at large screens, but trust me while playing on 120 inch screen at 720p i dont care about pixel density, it looks amazing with absolutely depth 3D around you

You're mixing up 3D movies with games now. He'll get whatever FPS his monitor/Tv's refresh rate is and how much his GPU('s) can handle. With SLI and a 120hz monitor/TV he'll have no issues playing at 60 fps, 1080p.

And even if we're talking about movies that's just bull. The HDMI cable isn't limited to those values, it's the movies that are.

what kind of settings are you planning to skyrim at?
my guess so far would be either 1 high end card(680/7970) or SLI/CF(7870 XT/660Ti) of two lesser cards in order to manage the 3d at good settings/fps.

Yeah, maybe in HDMI's earliest earliest versions, that's all it could manage.

It can manage much more now...
