Looking for a headset that won't break

Much to my frustration, my previous headset just broke. It was a Logitech G35 and it was really nice except for the connecting tubes that housed the wires to the speakers as well as allowing them to swivel slightly was made out of shitty plastic and broke after falling off of my chair. I had previously had to get it replaced because the same exact thing happened. I would get another one, as I heard that they started using metal for the connecting tubes, but I'm afraid of having the exact same problem and don't want to go through that again.

My headset before that had an issue with the sound shorting out (had it replaced twice) after two weeks or so.

Now I'm looking at a new headset, but I'm afraid of buying one that will just short out of break on me. Can anybody recommend a headset that is comfortable, has noise cancellation, has a mic and won't break on you? Bonus if it has a long cord that doesn't have a problem with winding itself up (the G35 seemed to have a sort of memory in its cord from when it was packaged, it would loop up constantly).

Note that I'm not looking to pay a silly amount, I don't need crazy sound quality or extraneous buttons or anything that these expensive 'gaming headsets' have.

Also, wireless is cool if it doesn't make it cost a stupid amount, my computer monitor has a short in its power connection and having one fewer wire to accidentally pull on the monitor cord and have my monitor turn off would be nice.

I would take a look at the Sennheiser PC360, I have heard it is a very good headset.

I also have a G35 btw but with the metal tubes.

Wait, yours has metal tubes? When did you get it?

The Sennheiser PC360 is waaaay too much, inflated cost due to stuff I don't need I'm guessing.

Ehm, I think about a year ago.

Sennheiser is too much? Hmm...I would take a look at the Steelseries headsets in that case or Turtle Beach, or just buy another G35 with the metal tubes. :P

I bought a Plantronics gamecom 780 about a month ago and I LOVE it! Super comfortable, metal connecters that won't break, the cushions are like pillows for your ears, and best of all its 7.1 surround sound capable. I got it on sale on amazon for $56 but I believe non sale price is $80. Worth every penny imo.

Do you still have the packaging for your G35? I'm afraid of being sent a plastic-tubed one. If you have it can you find and post the model #?

Was looking at this but I've read it has mic issues, was going to try it but if the G35 has changed to using metal tubes then I'll probably get that.

Yes, I do. Do you want a picture?

Can't you ask them specifically to send one with metal tubes?

    I have this one:

it's logitech that has inflated cost. It's connected via USB with 7.1 and other gimmicks such as "g buttons"

Are you 100% sure that it isn't plastic connectors?

That is the spot I'm talking about for plastic vs. metal, see how the earpiece has disconnected from the headband? That's because the tube was plastic. The rest of the headband has metal but that part is plastic, at least on mine it was.

$250 vs. $130 and Logitech is inflated? Granted it could be cheaper (G Buttons are useless) but it's about half the price of the other, plus it's on sale for $80 right now.

Yes, mine has metal, not plastic tubes like in the picture.

Awesome, though how do you even know they're metal?

You guys are looking at different areas. The slide for adjusting to the size of your head is metal with a metal housing. The insulation on the wires is most likely going to be plastic in each one. The part Bergatu is talking about isn't going to be metal because that part is supposed to bend and turn with your head, it has plastic connectors that pivot.

    I have the same headset.

I don't know, it feels like metal. :P It is very sturdy to say the least.

Oh damn, I didn't realize. I thought he just had a plastic wire around his head and that's it, not adjustable slider.

    Sorry Bergtau.

Well the specific tube in question could be metal just as easily as plastic since all it does is allow them to swivel and no bending is needed for that.

    Sound quality costs too.

Also Bergtau, did the sound short out in just one ear?

If the G35's sound quality isn't good enough for you then what the fuck? Sound quality is so high today for everything that it's not even a worthy consideration most of the time, I'm currently using a $20 piece of shit that doesn't even have a mic and the sound quality is pretty fucking good.

My old headsets (not G35s) shorted out in both the mic and the far ear from the cord. The replacement G35 'shorted out' in the far ear for like a day. I'm still not really sure what that was about because it never happened again, hence why I put shorted out in quotes.

The Corsair Vengeance 1500 is a fantastic for around $75.

Am I the only one thinking that -nevan's avatar is being shot by Bergtau's horse minigun signature?

Ok, well I'm wary of getting another G35 now given the tube thing still probably exists. Anybody have a Plantronics 780 that can give feedback about it? Specifically about the cord thickness.
