Looking to purchase a new GPU.

I'm looking for a top end card between 400-500 dollars. Have my eyes on http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130768 Is there anything that would be better for the money? Running single card set up.

My current card is a evga gtx 560ti

what kind of hardware do you currently have?
    mobo/psu/cpu ?

2 slot better and cheaper option :http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130797
3 slot beast and very good price after rebate : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814125437

if you could fit that tripple slot in your case that's a pretty good deal.

That card is reference, meaning, it's low clocked and have bad cooling. It's also overpriced. 680 is around 9 % better than the 670 for a larger cost, in my view it's not worth it.

    My suggestions:

    670

    7970

    Performance review : http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/A...rmance/23.html

The games you play might be in there, decide upon which card does best.

    I'd go for a 670 or a 660TI OC edition

You have been very helpful throughout my posts, thank you. I mainly play WoW, wanted on ultra, no frame drops, do not 25 man raid so not an issue there. Also am looking to handle games such as bioshock smoothly. Looking at the charts right now

No problem, always here to help mate!

Granted the 670 does come ahead in WoW by 4 fps, the 7970 should still be considered since you get Bioshock free with purchase which is just an awesome deal!

I would say so, I got it myself. Would not trade any card for it. (Maybe GTX Titan )

You could save yourself a HUGE amount of money buy opting for the 7950 Vapor X model, which I've been championing for some time. It has an average performance of 95% of the 7970 Ghz edition, a card which comes second to the Titan.

    http://www.superbiiz.com/detail.php?name=AT-7950VPX

The cost is around $320, but other merchants sell this for alot more, so this is a bargain price for a high end card.

To get the best bang for your buck you must be willing to overclock, but the card does support a godly overclock if you win the silicon lottery.

This version of the card should need 2x8 pin PCIe connectors. If it requires only 1x6 Pin and 1x8 Pin PCIe connectors it's an inferior card and you should avoid purchasing it. I'm pretty sure, given it's model number it requires 2x8 Pin PCIe connectors.

The card should come voltage unlocked, which means higher potential for overclocking and it has a dual BIOS feature, so if you've messed up somehow with flashing the BIOS you could always revert back to it's original stock settings at a flick of a switch.

It definitely presents good value when compared to the GTX 660TI, GTX 670 and even it's older brothers the 7970 and 7970 Ghz edition.

The only downside to the card is that it has a MASSIVE triple slot cooler so you must make sure your case and setup can accommodate it.

say what? overclocked 670/680 still outperform 7970 be it Ghz or standard ones. (when all cards are being overclocked to the limit)
also it's impossible to claim the best card for someone without knowing his games/resolution/settings.
last but not least the guy is running his 3570k on stock (for now perhaps) and you want him to push a gpu to it's limit?

ps: if your card is such a champ why not drop by in this thread?

I have the MSI Twin Frozr OC Edition >>> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127672 And I love it, my friend has a reference 680 and mine runs considerably cooler on idle and load than his, even while overclocking it further to 1135 Base/1200 Boost
    Haf-932 /// Asus Maximus Iv Extreme /// 2600k Overclocked ~ 4.4ghz /// 8gb Corsair Dominator DHX RAM
    160gb Intel SSD /// WD Black 500GB /// 1000 Corsair PSU /// Msi Twin Frozr Gtx 680 Overclocked ~ 1135Mhz/1200Mhz

I own both cards. 680 Lightning / 7970 Gigabyte OC, when both are overclocked I see higher average in BF3/Metro2033/Crysis3/Tomb Raider/Far Cry 3/Sniper Elite V2/Hitman. Only games where my 680 takes the lead is Diablo 3 / WoW. I'm sorry, but I don't take wanna side since I only care about performance; Nvidia are spending more time releasing overpriced cards instead of taking the aproach of AMD where they are finetuning drivers instead of rushing their new cards.

Also remember the price difference of a non-reference & decent 7970 card is around 60+$ than the 680, thats why benchmarks mostly compare the 670/7970.

    Woah.

First off, my advice was given with good intentions, to save the OP money. Secondly this is not some flippant comment I've made, but rather it's taken hours of research pouring over data and forum posts in regards the Vapor X 7950. This is not something I've concocted in just 5 mins of reading newegg reviews!

So I take your criticism rather personally and it need not be so personal.

The card, after rebates, is around $320 which inc delivery. That's a huge saving for a card that can hold it's own again the like of the GTX 670 and 7970 Ghz editions, which I hold in very high regard.

I hope that clears things up.

well no offense was intended. (nor in this post)
while i do not question the research, i do question to what extend it is viable to the OP.
i just don't see it happen that he suddenly overclocks it like mad to make sure it "can" be the equal of 670/680/7970(Ghz)
it's a decent card for the price that has potential as such but that's all i can see in it.

the part about the gpu overclocking leaderboards is mostly that lots of people claim certain clocks and i just think why not post over there aswell? (i mean the thread is there for a reason and it's fun to do)
