Question Whatever happened to Warhammer online?

I remember it being all the hype like 4 years ago. Then it just faded off the map. What happened?

    Wrong forum.

It died out I guess, it was very buggy at launch for me

I really enjoy the pvp on warhammer, especially healing, the more you heal the better your reward, so you basically don't care if your enemy dies the main thing is to keep your team alive and hope your enemy team has a healer doing the same to make battles last as long as possible :P

You get the same rewards as other classes but yours come in trickles rather than at the end which feels much more rewarding.

It got crushed by the WOW juggernaut. That said tho I really liked it, but it was a tad buggy at launch and then it never really reached critical mass and momentum and started to dwindle and then the servers started to close and then it was Game Over!

You probably could get all the info on it by using the google and typing in Warhammer Online, strange concept, but it'd most likely work.

I would think it either died or just faded into obscurity.

It suffered from the typical EA rush to launch followed by a bunch of knee jerk balancing patches that frustrated the piss out of their customers. I played for about a year before giving up on them ever getting it right.

maybe he could have googled it but I'm sure 99% of the info that's on google is there cuz some guy asked in a forum like this and got an answer. Get off your high horse and stop back seat moding.

    Two things happened.

    1. DAOC - A lof of people who loved DAOC hated Warhammer because it only had two factions. In DAOC, one faction could never dominate a server because as soon as one faction got a ´lead´.. the other two factions teamed up and brought it down. The third faction made all the difference.... even if your faction was in 3rd place, you ended up deciding who was in first place. Warhammer had two factions, so within a month after launch, almost every server had a dominate faction and a faction that could never catch up. (similar in a lot of ways to wow pvp servers). The big difference was that in Warhammer, the entire game was based around pvp.

    2. Endgame - Again, Warhammer was supposed to be a huge pvp faction battle... but endgame for pvpers who dominated the other faction was invading the other teams capital city... which was an instanced, mostly pve thing. It was almost exactly like raiding Stormwind as horde.. you sweep in, you might blow up a few players, but most of the challenge is killing the guards and boss. The really sad part is that the faction being invaded could even ´opt-out´ of being in the instance that is being invaded by the enemy... and almost everyone did.

Combat was ok, the actual fighting was ok. But almost every server became one-faction dominated within a month after launch, and was never fixed.... and then there was a very anti-climatic engame for pvpers.. invading the enemy capital full of low-AI guards... FWIW.. I disagree with a lot of what was said here. I don´t think it was rushed, the client and game was pretty solid.. I think the game failed the minute they made it based on the Warhammer IP, which only allowed two factions and then the devs never thought about server balance issues.

It got rushed, literally 2/3 of the game wasn't finished on time and got cut (there was supposed to be 3 wars going on instead of 1), and all in all it just didn't have the dev time to live up to the hype.

Too early launch combined with a game designed to compete with vanilla WoW, not the much more progressed TBC that had launched earliel.

It tried to avoid the "crash course" with public event gimmick and PvP with no success.

It's still around. It has some of the most fun pvp I've played in an mmo. I loved my squig herder. I haven't played it in a while though. I doubt it has much support for it anymore.

It's still running. Very rarely do MMOs "die". They can run for years and years with like 100k player at most.

Warhammer was simply too buggy, unpolished and incomplete at launch. They rushed it out the door. Wasn't ready.

It got rushed but had some really good idea (that wow has picked up years later) but main problem was class balance. The combo of brightmages/sorc and Docs/warriorrpriests that could decimate 40-50 people just by aoe was just horrible. And they didnt patch it out for months so people left because the large scale pvp didnt work because of it.
Still i loved the castle sieges and public quests. The raids were really well made aswell.

It also got forced out way to early, they had to cut several of the capitals and wars because of it. That narrowed it down to 1-2 battle zones and the rest left more or less empty.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the over-charging fiasco.

I think most people had unsubscribed by that point anyways : P

But yeah, that was a huge black mark for the game. I'm still blown away that it happened. How that's even possible is truly beyond me.

Well, they fucked my realm by allowing dozens of Order guilds to transfer, making a very skewed ratio O:C. Which meant we never won any RVR, never even had a chance. Bring ALL the chaos to the battlefield and we still got swarmed.

Questing was terrible. Mobs respawned faster than you could kill them, so again, you'd get swarmed. Then they had elite mobs amongst the regular mobs using the same goddamn model.

There was no PvP balance, there were obvious classes that were OP and classes that needed help. I mean, WHO made WoW PvP look balanced. It was *that* bad.

All in all, it sucked. And I ended up quitting only after a month or so. The big one however was when they fucked my realm by allowing all those Order guilds to transfer in without a thought to faction balance.

Granted, no server will have 50:50 balance, but don't let it go more than 60:40.
