How do I RNG for a shiny starter?

Well, Ive seen a youtube guide and got on a website but they both confuse me. My problem is they all say to set up a profile. I get to the profile and it wants me to set up parameters. Thats where the problem hits. You see, the guides say to go out, use sweet scent and catch a pokemon. I can't do that. Im still at the very start trying to get a shiny starter. So I need to know how I set up a parameter when I cant go out and catch a pokemon.
