Witcher games have never interested me. not really sure why. just something about the setting and gameplay i dont find interesting. Cyberpunk 2077 will eat my life, though

TW3 is a great game but on the combat/customization aspects of RPG it's very lacking. I replayed Dragon Age:Origins more times than I did TW3. I think TW3 did open world and the side quests really well though.

Am I the only one who absolutely hate the part where you have to play as Ciri? It's incredibly annoying that I find myself using her OP dash to get past everything.

amazing story and graphics, I played it through once as well as both expansions, however playing it on a PC you can tell that combat is designed for consoles so felt a bit clunky, the loot system is weird and by the time I had crafted the best weapons the game was nearly finished, overall though would definitely recommend it although probably on a console

The storytelling in Witcher 1 is good, but it's infinitely better in both 2 and 3. All 3 are a whole level beyond most other RPGs, especially those released in the past years.

Its camera view, UI and controls screams PC port so bad its like a dumpster fire. I know its a good game,. but Im not gonna play a console game on my PC. GTA 5 also was very bad with this, same 3 complaints, but I mustered through with that and did the game in like 2 years...
The game is obviously made as a PC game first and foremost. I've played it both on PS4 and PC, and I couldn't count the times I died on PS4 due to messy controls, which never really happened while I played on PC. Not to mention graphics are twice better on PC, too.

It's a very popular opinion that witcher's actual gameplay was super lackluster. The issue is that people don't often bring it up so as not to deal with the trove of rabid fans waiting to attack such opinions. It's just not worth it most of the time.

The actual minority here are the people who didn't care for it's story.

I rather read the books, thank you. Tried the first Witcher game and was so much annoyed by controls and game system that I stopped.

I also really hate PC games which have console-inspired controls.

Yeah its a good game. Havent played it in a long time though. On my last save I am supposed to fight a witch and I remember I kept getting owned, so I got so mad and frustrated I just stopped playing it lol

Probably my favorite rpg is all time. Or maybe a tie with mass effect 2. I don’t think the combat is stellar, but the story and quests are so good, and the world so well crafted, who cares?

A no less valid complaint, and one I've heard often. The Witcher games renowned for their storytelling. You hear people saying all the time "hey, it'd be cool if a game told it's story like the Witcher 3". I've never heard anyone saying "hey, this game should hand it's combat or gameplay like the Witcher 3"...
The same can be said about World of Warcraft which has one of the most dull and non-dynamic combat systems ever. I've never seen anyone in the last 10 years impressed by WoW's effects or game mechanics...

The same goes for Skyrim and Fallout with their signature Bethesda-like clunkyness. But what makes up for this in all these games is their expansive open-worlds, countless stories and adventures to be made and loot to collect

I really loved the Witcher 3. The story was fantastic, the settings were interesting too, and I didn't mind the combat too much (although it could've been better), but all of this is very subjective. Still, overall, I think the majority of RPG enthusiasts loved it.

I bought the game a while ago because I felt attracted by the universe, but I could not go past the first few chapters, mainly because of controls.

It certainly didn't help that I had just finished Breath of the wild before ; TW3 just felt super clunky in comparison.
I know the storyline is awesome, way deeper that BOTW, but while I can spend hours exploring the world searching for korok seeds, I just can't get into TW3 world.

It's a shame really, but in my opinion gameplay > all in a video game.

This is not really true. WoW's combat is deeper than the witcher simply from the merits of it being multiplayer games. WoW's combat on the surface is really bland and simple but it actually allows for incredible level of input from players that will separate one from another. TW3's combat is quite realistic and hard at first to grasp but there's really no depth to plump for the players. They are different.

Never quite enjoyed witcher series like I did with Skyrim. I really hated Witcher 1 combat and Witcher 2 gameplay, and even Witcher 3 I fell asleep playing it but probably because I didn't know the lore and story since I didnt play the previous 2 that much. Would you guys recomend me to watch some videos that explain the story prior to W3 before playing it?
You don't understand. Having an unpayed full time job that no one appreciates is the magic of classic.

did you even read what i said ? I have NO problems what so ever fighting a mob way above my level, i welcome it, i want games to be hard as hell. Thats not the problem. Killing a mob 10 levels higher than yourself, to be rewarded with a sword 10 levels lower than you, and 20 levels lower then the monster guarding it. That is my problem

It's been over three and a half years since it came out, and we've yet to have even heard of any Witcher 3-esque games on the horizon. Hm...
I don't TW3's gameplay is bad by any means, but it definitely isn't as good as its story, presentation and graphics.

Combat wise, I just find it too repetitive. Light attack, heavy attack (that leaves you super exposed), your chosen Sign (Quen most of the time), and maybe Yrden when those annoying ass ghosts pop up. There, all the tools you need to beat 99% of fights. Sure, you can learn combat techniques, but they are stamina hogs that leave you even more exposed. Sure, you can learn advanced Signs but most of them are worse than baseline ones. Sure, you can make bombs, but who am I kidding here? The lack of progression is something I dislike in an RPG, as opposed to say Dragon Age where my wimpy level 1 mage that can barely toss a fireball ends up being a god amongst mortals who darts around the battlefield, has unlimited energy barriers, summons lighting storms, and sports a lightsaber made of magic.

The loot system and mob scaling is my biggest issue with the title. There's an absolute ton of loot out there, just waiting to be found while exploring... and it's all useless because the level scaling of said loot makes no logical sense and Witcher gear is always strictly superior anyway. So while I do like that cool looking, matching gear sets provide the best bonuses, it makes all the rest of the loot vendor trash which isn't satisfying, and it strongly disincentives exploration.

Scaling is also annoying, but mostly in Velen, when you're dropped there at level 4 and many locations have level 10, 15+ enemies that your Master Witcher self must run like a little bitch from. That, and the fact that you have a small window where sidequests are 1) possible to do, 2) not trivial and 3) actually rewarding in XP.

Still a great game, mind you, I've finished it twice. But it's not perfection itself like some people claim.

Any tips for someone just starting out (no spoilers please). Are there level ranges for zones or a way to tell what levels mobs are from a distance? I did one sidequest in an area and as I was walking back to the main town I stepped off the road a bit and got blindsided and killed in two hits.

Do sidequests while at the same or just under the same level.

You get mad experience from story missions and its easy to out level side content making it trivial.

Yeah, I've been exploring and trying to hit as many question marks and exclamation marks as possible. I was only about ten minutes into the game and already things felt a little bit on the rails when it comes to the main quest (ask this person about Yenn, now ask this person over there, etc.). And I just wanted to stop and pick herbs. Too bad you can't pick herbs while on horse back

I'm just doing a playthrough from scratch with alchemy build, went for the "neutral" talent that increases bomb damage by 200%.

With just Enhanced bombs, i can close to one shot entire groups of enemies, might drop off later on however.

Yeah, but you're blowing consumables to kill one group of normal enemies, which are pretty easy in TW3. Bosses are much harder, especially the DLC ones, and they shrug off bombs like they're nothing in my experience. Just get the Igni upgrade that ignites enemies, it does tons of damage without using up consumables and you don't need to spec far to get it.
