Just call them original WoW or pre-BC or original D3 or whatever vanilla does NOT sound like you're referring the first version of the game it sounds like you're either referring to a My Little Pony version of any game or a bland, simple and unoriginal version of a game, like the simplest and most uninteresting version of a game.

Chocolate WoW had some of the best raiding, but the community was already starting to go. With the changes made in Strawberry WoW, the community died altogether.

I love people who think they can actually control how language evolves. There was something about Siege of Orgrimmar too, how people should call it 'Siege' instead of SoO (or the other way around, I forget).
