Personally i'd watch some Stand-up comedy maybe watch a Broadway show.
I'd also go see some building and famous places, like Times Square, Ground Zero, Chrystler Building, Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building. If you are 21+, go have a drink and have fun, but be careful outside at night, this is not Europe.
New York should be plenty of fun for 6 weeks.
(If you don't like lines, then don't bother with the buildings)

You can also go on a 2 day trip to Niagara falls.

For San Fran look up Emeryville fishing http://www.emeryvillesportfishing.com/. Basically you pay $100 each for a charter boat that takes like 30 people out fishing from about 6:30am-3pm. The boat drives like 3 hours out of the bay. Don't need to be an expert. Can rent rods and bait for pretty cheap. Cool experience if you arent an avid fisherman. And you get your moneys back in the fish/crabs you keep (10 rockfish 6 crab when I went, they can boil it right on the dock if you want).

Im not sure how PG-13 your trip is? But if it's not PG-13, id suggest Crazyhorse in San Fran and Sapphire in Vegas. Never take a cab to a stripclub in Vegas, and always get the free limo ride card handed out on the street in Vegas. I don't know what your budget is, but book hotels early.

Skip San Fran if you aren't comfortable getting hit on by the same sex.

you only need 2 nights in vegas...

    Las Vegas
    - helicopter tour - grand canyon
    - mashine gun shooting range
    - pinball museum
    - hookers - make sure they have the attributes "you" like :-)

    Nobody is married in Vegas

Can still do strip clubs at least, then after hours ask the cab driver where the "legal brothels" are... once your friend is asleep that is. But yeah Sapphire club is basically like a music video, very surreal and a 4:1 girl guy ratio. 20 dollar lapdances 150 dollar vip.

    Hawaiian Tropic Zone in NYC!

The drinks are decent and the waitresses know how to milk good tips! I've never been treated better in a bar!

I haven't been to New York so I'm sorry that I can't help you there. However, I have visited both SF and LV in the last 6 months. As with anywhere else in the world, it is hard to recommend anywhere not being aware of your tastes and hobbies. To that end, I will share some thoughts with you from each place, take of it what you will.

    San Francisco
    - Very different city depending on what "district" you happen to be in.
    - Tenderloin district is cheap accommodation in a rough area. If you are intimidated by the less fortunate, this area is not for you
    - Haight-Ashbury is where the some of love was centred and to this day it shows, colours that the world has never seen adourn the buildings and more than a few people who remain permanently fried from the LSD they took 40 years ago.
    - Fisherman's Wharf - Great place to eat cheap seafood and walk around the beach, a real tourists hub.
    - Castro District - The gay area of SF, great place to visit, very friendly people as you would expect, do not go here if homosexuality frightens you.
    - There are alot of beggers around SF, it is legal for them to do so as long as they are providing a good or service for the begging, expect alot of buskers and alot of old newspapers to be sold to you.
    - Definitely take a tour to Alcatraz, totallly worth it. Do the night tour!
    - Do a tour of the city which explains the great fire, a great story and even better if your being told the story while going through the neighbourhoods it flattened.

    Vegas
    - I know I went here, I don't remember a great deal. Seriously though, Sin City baby! whatever your vice is, it's available here. Take money, party hard
    - Do not book accomodation in advance it is alot cheaper to go in to the hotel and ask for their cheapest rate, they are super cheap because if they werent, you would go next door to the next casino and stay there.

If you have any other questions, let me know.

But really, what do you like to do? We've got everything here in NY!

give me your adress and we´ll visit you

well as tourists we obviously will to the tourists stuff, but as i happen to be able to talk to some people who actually live there and know the places to go to, i thought i´d give it a try and ask

like you have to visit that place, because that´s were the parties are great, or a nice pub, or parks, parades, places that are just worth a visit but aren´t usually in the "tour folders" even outside of manhatten

or maybe what we should have an eye for, like don´t go there at whatever time, be carefull with taxi drivers, whatever information you find worth of knowing for some foreigner

baseball season isn´t while we´re there, we loved to do that, but maybe something else we have no clue about

lol Touristy stuff. The problem with doing that stuff is it takes so long. Going to Ellis Island for the Statue of Liberty is pretty much an all day event. Same with going up into the Empire State building if you want to go to the top.

Baseball season is started now and goes until September for regular season, so if you wanted to go to the Bronx to see a Yankee game or out onto the island for a Mets game (Technically part of NYC, but in Queens which I hate going to, so I include it with Long Island lol) When people say they're going to the city, they usually mean Manhattan.

If you like museums, we have the MET, MoMA and the American Museum of Natural History. I really do like the MET. I would check out Central Park, at least take a walk through, just don't go at night lol If you want to meet some of the craziest people we have, take a walk through the Village AT night lol I would go to Rockefeller Center. 30 Rock is another one of the cities buildings you can go to the top observation deck, and it's a lot less crowded than the others (and it's the building I work in!).

We also have the cultural sections of the city, i.e. Chinatown, Little Italy, etc. There is a guided tour called Gourmet Guided Tour (I think that's what it's called, but I will check again) that takes you around to taste foods from around the city. There is a pizza shop called "John's Pizzeria" on Bleecker Street that is absolutely amazing. Brick oven carb overload!

If you want a nice sit down bar, Galway Hooker in either Midtown or Downtown is really nice. If you want to dance with a DJ and live band, there is a place called FatBlackPussyCat on W. 3rd. But really, there are pubs/clubs/bars all over the place. Do a little hopping.

I would totally go to FAO Schwarz on 5th. Best toy store ever! The Toys R Us in Times Square is pretty cool. I would definitely go to Dylan's Candy on 3rd Ave too. It's probably as close to Willy Wonka's factory as you will ever get lol

Take a day for Yosemite while you're in SF. It's about a 3 hour (maybe 4 from the city) drive each way, but totally worth it.

While in SF, go up to the top of Telegraph hill and search for the public stairway that goes down from there through people's gardens and back yards all the way down into the financial district. It's very cool.
'Twas a cutlass swipe or an ounce of lead
Or a yawing hole in a battered head
And the scuppers clogged with rotting red
And there they lay I damn me eyes
    All lookouts clapped on Paradise
All souls bound just contrarywise, yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!
