    Coca cola zero...

    Hey Guys and girls

So ive started working out going gym 4-6 times a week depending on Work etc, ive got a meal plan set aswell so that i have proper food 6 times a day. the only thing i can´t seem to get rid off out of all the unheathly stuff is my 1-3 Cans of Coca cola zero each day.

So my question: Is Coca cola zero bad for trying to Loose weight and get into shape???

Im now only talking about the zero for itself. I dont want to hear all this about as:
"Diet soda contains aspartame which is a chemical the body breaksdown into furmaldehyde (embalming fluid)! It has 92 known side effects including brain lesions. I would avoid it all costs. Also it makes you crave (real) sugar which makes you binge on sweets and high carb foods"

Cola zero never gives me needed craving´s for other stuff since i normally just drink it while im playing and dont feel like eating anything unhealthy.

Ive tried googling but almost every post i see is that people tell about the zero will give you craving for food which will then result in you eating more and thereby putting on weight that way.

Thank you and sorry for the hate on people that talk about aspartame which is true just not in my case.

Well I know that it is better for your diet.

Oh don't worry about the aspartame, unless you are drinking tons it doesn't matter one bit.

The whole aspartame craze is retarded.

I think there was some study done that artificial sweeteners do increase appetite, so if you stick to your meal plan and drink it in moderation there should not be a problem.

The "zero" colas do not contain aspartame. The people getting cravings for stuff when they drink "zero" colas are just so used to filling up on calories with regular soda that their bodies just say "NEED MORE FOOD!"

If you are really serious about this you would give up soda. Its not hard. I used to drink coke everyday and I never drink it now.

    Dude!
Don't worry about health aspect; you'll probably stop consuming it way before it would affect your health. It's also not a problem for losing weight. In last 7-8 years I dropped 10kg twice while drinking it regulary, about 0,5L per day. It has really low calorie intake.

    But!
There's this nasty thing, tooth decay. During several years my teeth became yellowish and, and also had problems with their fragility, some bits and pieces falling off while eating normal food. I had to replace 3 molars and I got huge dentist bill. I don't smoke, don't drink coffee, and there was nothing in my eating or living habbits which could have caused problems with teeth. Obviously after I stopped consuming that crap, decaying has stopped.
So get rid of it as soon as you can. It can be addictive, but after 1 week you'll stop thinking about it.

Because it is 0 calories it is better for you than regular pop in terms of weight loss so that is a good thing. That being said though, it is pop and it contains sugar (fake sugar but still) so it can cause you problems with looking good but it won't stop you from losing weight. I drink a 20 oz bottle every day sometimes more because I'm addicted to caffeine but I still dropped 20 pounds. My issue is I've still got a gut. Now that may be due to the foods I eat or it may be due to the sugar in the pop.

TLDR: If you want to look great (six pack, etc) then you should cut it out. If you just want to lose weight you're probably ok.

Exactly, if you are spending time working out and taking care of yourself and drinking that rubbish then you need to take a big look at yourself and what you are doing. It's similar to people posting on workout forums that they smoke. Just ridiculous, no time for these people.

Could just drink water ... or add some lemon to water.

Drinking a liter of gatorade would be more healthful I'd venture to guess, and the calorie increase is negligible. But, the eliminating the exposure to the stuff in cola that erodes your teeth is a benefit; though less so if you drink the soda very fast, or rinse your mouth/brush your teeth afterwards so the acids in the soda don't have time to work their magic. Aspartame or not, there are a lot of ingredients in sodas that you could do without.

I'm not anti-soda, I've drank more than my share in my day and still enjoy one now and then. Just giving reasons to give it up.

I believe, or at least my interpretation of the poster you quote, is that if they are serious, then they will have the discipline to give up the soda as well.

My suggestion is find something else that is enjoyable as a substitute that does have some healthful benefit ... whether a tea (sweetened or not), a sports drink, plain water (get a pur/brita pitcher), water with added lemon, pure juice drinks, etc. There are alternatives that are much better than the chemical cocktail that is soda when you are trying to move to a much more healthful lifestyle.

I believe you should do what makes you happy though, life is too short to stress about little things like a zero calorie soda

I'm going to assume they do given the bottle in front of me that lists it under the ingredients.

Just had a thought, is it different in different countries? UK here.

Healthy people do not drink soda or diet soda. Being healthy is not just about diet or exercise it is way of life. I have not drunk soda is about 10 years. After I learned of all the sugar it just seems like a bad idea. I could go on for hours about how I hate soda but that is for a different thread. The problem with diet soda is that it is unhealthy. It is a chemical cocktail made to substitute something you should have never been drinking in the first place. The only people I know of that drink diet soda are fat people, people on diets, and bulimics. Healthy skinny beautiful people do not drink diet soda. Soda, diet soda, and processed food are all the same. These items are not food or drink. These items are a "food/drink like product." Do not think of quitting diet soda as you are missing out on something. Drinking diet soda is not something you should have been doing in the first place. When you quit diet soda you are quitting the habits of a fat person and returning to the natural thing of drinking water.

I think this is a bit self-righteous to judge people to that extreme over something they do for enjoyment. I'm sure if your life was analyzed, there would be flaws in your choices and ideas ... and someone who didn't make your mistakes shouldn't look down upon you either. You don't have to agree with someone's personal choice, but you also should respect their freedoms and flaws, while also lending a hand, if you are the type to be helpful in the first place, to the things they are trying to improve.

You'd be surprised who does what ... and if they are happy, why show such disdain? (no time for these people?) I've known of body builders that eat 3 big macs a day that I guarantee are healthier than you'll ever be in life. I've known people who've smoked their whole life that can run further than healthy non-smokers.

There can be an 'ideal'; but one shouldn't piss on anyone that doesn't live up to the false standard of perfection. What is the point of choice and individuality if you have to conform completely to be respected by your peers?

Very negative attitude you've put forth. You have every right to be that way though and I bet those whom you believe you have no time for, are better off not getting your time and are happier without it

God forbid I open a Coke Zero once or twice a week whenever I need something other than water. I guess that makes me a fat person/person on a diet/bulimic.

Body builders are not healthy by even modest standards. Body builders have to do many unnatural and unhealthy things to remain competitive. What you said is like saying "Pro wrestlers are healthy look at all the muscle." Muscle mass do not mean someone is healthy just as skinny does not mean healthy.

Carbonation expands the stomach making you feel a little more hungry, that and it has extra sodium and sugar you could do without. But if you are seeing progress I see no harm done, but if you hit a brick wall and can't seem to lose anymore weight, then you might need to start investigating the issue, which may or just as well may not be the Coke Zero.

    Good luck regardless!

    Another assuming and dismissive attitude.

I've known many skinny people who quite enjoy soda, as well as rigorous exercise. They are not mutually exclusive, as much as it seems people are trying to make it.

Most things are ok, in MODERATION. That is the key. Self-discipline and attention to the big picture. You can have confectionaries and sodas, and fried foods, etc as long as you know how to limit yourself ... once a week/month ... or know that you need to do a bit extra all week to afford that special treat.

Net deficit on calories in vs calories out is the only true way to lose weight. Cardio is good for you heart and lungs. Toning workouts is great for your muscles. But if you gorge on so-called healthful foods, you'll still gain weight and be unhappy. Getting the proper nutrients in your daily intake and making sure you burn off equal or more than you put in; you will get to/maintain the weight you want. To get the '6-pack' abs, you have to work that section of your body appropriately. No miracles, no tricks. Eat in moderation and properly, exercise intelligently ... and you will have the body you want, while eating most of what you want, just not as often or as much as you crave.

Frankly you can drink zero cola until it comes out from the sides of your eyes and it won't affect your weight loss program. It has like 0.3 kcal per 100ml, which is less than a percent of regular cola (40+). To meet a normal daily calorie intake of 2000 kcal, you'd need to drink ~700 litres of zero cola (which you probably wouldn't be able to do without killing yourself anyway).
