    gvg in gw2

So im not sure if there was a thread about this, but where is it? It was one of the major game feature of gw.

What is GvG even? WvW is usually ruled by the big guilds with organized people in it. sPvP let's you do tournaments with guildies. I don't see much reason to have something ONLY for a guild. Besides, guilds are still getting things added, we recently got the incredibly awesome guild missions.

gvg is a team deathmatch 8v8

There is no GVG in Guild Wars 2.

Need to play the superior and classic original Guild Wars.

Not sure how exactly you mean that. I feel like there's a bit of sarcasm in it, but then again not. Regardless, I doubt many agree that Guild Wars is a better game. I don't hear a lot of people say "I miss the good old Guild Wars" anyway.

There is no GvG in GW2. There is some ghetto GvG that guilds from different servers in the same matchup will organize themselves, but it gets easily ruined by randoms and queues especially in T1. Don't get me wrong WvW is still great, and organized guilds still have a big impact and rivalries with other guilds, but no there absolutely is no GvG in GW2.

There is no sarcasm. GW1 is a superior made and designed game in an absolute sense.

Whether one enjoys it over GW2 is another matter. And meaningless.

Going to call bullshit here. GW1 was hardly even an MMO, it was the Dark Souls of the MMO world. You had the potential to group up for certain content. Was GW1 enjoyable? Yeah, GW1 was pretty damn great, but to call it better when in comparison to a game designed completely different? You cannot be serious.

EDIT: I understand chastising GW2 on its own merits, that is understandable, but don't compare oranges to tangerines here. Just because elements are shared, does not mean they are the same.

I think GW was a vastly superior game as well, I'm still playing it now over GW2. Finishing up GWAMM on my 2nd account, rather VQ and do HM missions with my heroes than play a korean grindfest with an extremely low skillpool.

OT: GvG is a competitive 8v8 pvp mode for guilds, and probably the best pvp any MMO has ever seen. It is not necessarily a death match as the goal of the game is to kill their guild lord in which you defend by splitting your team and having a flag runner which gains you a morale boost every 2minutes. Usually this is stopped by it's still required or else the other team will get morale. GW2 would get pvpers flocking back again in an instant if they added it, guaranteed. Any serious pvper has been incredibly disappointed with the borefest that is conquest. I mean really what were they thinking.. adding 1 shit pvp mode that no one likes, the horrible balance could have been ignored with a decent mode.

They need to add HA as well, but I don't see either of these happening. ANet has their own agenda and seem to believe they know what the playerbase wants or likes, but they're totally oblivious. Game modes that actually force you to be strategic instead of building a bunker 1man army D/D elementalist holding a point indefinitely (not exactly my idea of a good time in pvp). GvG would most likely suck anyways in GW2 because you can't heal the lord.

Yay 200 HP ticks by regeneration and protection isn't going to help vs the massive DPS that exists in this game... it's a lost cause honestly.

All it would turn into would be a zerg DPS race just like everything else in this game.

Are we playing a different game here?

I loved the hell out of GW1 PvP; quick match arenas were just a blast each and every time, but come the hell on. You're being critical of aspects that don't even exist in the game. DPS zergfest? Korean grindfest? What the hell is every other MMO on the market right now then, they all require you to grind or DPS for something.

I'm not saying GW2 is perfect though, I'm not fond of the Fractals being my only source of income/gear, and while I think WvW is really fantastic, it isn't the same as being able to pop into an arena match and just go to town like Guild Wars 1 had. I'm not a big fan of traits either, the minimalist amount of boons and curses/status effects in the game make me moan.

At least be realistic in your criticisms.

In my eyes I am being realistic, not being sarcastic or anything. In comparison to the both GW games GW2 is a korean grind fest, with vertical progression. I don't enjoy it. At all. I play other games with grind like that and they do it much better, like WoW. The whole reason I loved GW series is because there was none of that. I didn't have to worry about it, it was just all about fun horizontal progression.

I never liked RA quickjoin battles in GW, those were shit imo, akin to hotjoin conquest in GW2. but I did love HA, GvG, AB, JQ and FA.

Well that would be your opinion I guess... but you do somewhat view your opinion as law :P

It's an MMO. Just uses a different model- from contiguous MMOs. GW2 is pretty close to the model except the zones have open parties. Though GW2 is not a contiguous MMO either.

The only defense of GW1 not being an MMO is Anet's own wording of CO-OP RPG to differentiate business model and non-contiguous world among contemporaries in the market.

Yes, you can compare things that are different. Even belonging to different genres or mediums as fit to the discussion.

Video games are somewhat interesting in that their chief aspect, gameplay is an objective truth among consumed media. Unlike say, film.

    Gameplay isn't opinion though.

It is a common misunderstanding by the general audience of video games that enjoyment and the object rule of gameplay are one and the same. They are not.

I suppose I can understand when you put it that way, personally though I just cannot see a comparison between the two. They share core aspects yeah, but one is an MMO, and the other is more a single-player game with MMO traits tied into it. Still, you do hold water mentioning the lack of grind in GW1. Maybe I'm just desensitized to grinding or something.

The name escapes me right now, but the guy who helmed Dark Age of Camelot is currently making a successor to the game that is strictly PvP, no PvE whatsoever. That is not an MMO, in the same way Team Fortress is not an MMO, and it is as you said, ArenaNet themselves do not define GW1 as an MMO.

Just because the GW1 and GW2 share traits, does not mean that the core games are comparable. Perhaps you could compare shared elements and framework such as PvP and the like, but you absolutely cannot compare much else, as the two games function at entirely different wavelengths.

RA/fa/jq all are pvp in the sense of the word (you fight against other players) but it doesn't have the same stature since the playing fields aren't even.

RA=RANDOM arena, FA heavily favors kurzick (bonders ftw) and JQ is just an aoe fest with no real tactics.

"Real" pvpers were GVG, TA and HA (and possibly even hero battles).

This is why I detest "pvp" in GW2 it's more random than RA from GW1
