I think they'd be on the radio more than never if that's true.

They're not played on the radio much because they cater directly to their fanbase, not the masses, with their music (and that's pretty much just teenage girls). Their most recent single shot to #1 is what... 60something countries? Most of their singles have actually debuted at #1 in numerous countries. Their most recent tour is already completely sold out and they've been named the biggest boy band of our generation. They were formed in 2010 and "One Direction represented a $50 million business empire by June 2012".
