Damaged my pc, need to find out what's wrong/how to fix

My computer fell on its side (toppled over, no actual falling distance), and now the available memory seems to have dropped.

I notice that in the resource monitor 2600MB is reserved for hardware (trivia: my brother with the same pc as me has had that since the start, unlike me, resulting in his pc underperforming)

The next moment I can send my pc in for repair'd be monday.

Following the sticky about required information I use Belarc for this:

    CPU (brand, model, speed):

2,20 gigahertz AMD A6-3620 APU with Radeon HD Graphics
    512 kilobyte primary memory cache
    4096 kilobyte secondary memory cache
    64-bit ready
    Multi-core (4 total)
    Not hyper-threaded

Motherboard (brand, model, chipset): hope main circuit board means the same:

    Board: Acer Aspire X3470
    Bus Clock: 100 megahertz
BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. P01-A4 12/20/2011

    RAM (amount, type, speed)

    1494 Megabytes Usable Installed Memory

Slot 'DIMM1' has 2048 MB (serial number A91F0500)
Slot 'DIMM2' has 2048 MB (serial number B51F0500)
    Slot 'DIMM3' is Empty
    Slot 'DIMM4' is Empty

    Graphics Card (brand, model)

AMD Radeon HD 6530D [Display adapter]
    Samsung SMS22A100 [Monitor] (21,7"vis, s/n ZTMBHMCC100189, januari 2012)

    Power Supply (brand, model, wattage)

    Unknown :/

    Operating System

    Windows 7

    Resolution

    1920 x 1080

WoW Settings (AA, Shadows, View Distance, Spell Effects...etc) As usual, but will include.

    texture resolution: Custom
    texture filtering: 4x Anisotropic
    projected textures: enabled

    Shadow quality: good
    Liquid detail: ultra
    Sunshafts: high
    particle density: ultra
    SSAO: low

    view distance: ultra
    Environmental detail: good
    Ground clutter: good

    Display mode: windowed (fullscreen)
    Multisampling x1
    Vertical sync disabled

    anything else needed?

Ok...thanks for identifying the problem and coming with a solution edit: and for the fast response btw!

Question now is: how do I reseat my RAM? I've never touched the inside of a computer before :s

just go to youtube and search installing ram... There are tabs on each end of the module, press those down to release the ram. pull it out. place it back in with some pressure until those 2 tabs snap closed. do this with each module and see if that helps.

Alright! I'll be back with the results shortly-ish.

On your MB there are 4 slots next to eachother, 2 of them are filled the other 2 are empty, this is your memory.
On each side of the filled slots there are 2 plastic thingys standing right up, when you push them down the memory will come out.
When you want to put the memory back in, look on how exactly the memory fits (it only fits one way) put the plastic thingys horizontal, when you push the memory in they will come up on their own, and only when they are in an upright position are they correctly installed.

    IMPORTANT!

Befor you touch your MB, be sure to use the power switch. This will drain the system of its remaining power and you will have less of a chance damaging annyting inside (though its still possible, unlikely but possible)

It's very important that you make sure that it's completely unplugged and no power is going to your PC before you try to do anything to your RAM... it will cause a short if you do not. (which will ruin your RAM port, and mean you have to replace your motherboard)

Reading these 2 posts as well.

    So the plan is:

Close all programs; press the power button till it pwoers down
    Unplug the pc
Be touching something metal while pressing the tabs to pull out the RAM, then put it back in, make sure the tabs are back how they were.
then close the pc again, plug it in, and it should be fixed.

    Right?

yea, but after you have unplugged it you need to push the power button!
Thats the only way to drain the system.

In theory yes, but you never actually know how the result will be with computers.

I'm gonna link you 3 videos from newegg on how to build a computer. They might help you in the future with replacing broken parts.

Dont worry man, Reseating the RAM is the easiest component of the PC to fix. You'll be fine.

Ok, my computer is opened up, aaaand my dvd drive is blocking one of the RAMs. It's pretty tight in there compared to what video's showed me :/

just disconect the drive, you can unscrew it and push it a bit out of the case, this should give you plenty of room.
You can also remove the graphics card out quite ez, just unscrew the screws that connect it to the case and you can pretty much just get it out. There is a little bit of plastic holding the card on the MB aswell, you can just put it aside and it should be no problem. (dont forget to unplug-replug the extra power on the graphics card if you take it out)

Actually the safest way (but it's too late now) is if you turn power off from the switch in PSU but leave it plugged to the wall, then touch some metal part of the case to ground yourself (PC plugged into wall will keep the case grounded at all times) before doing small operations like (un)plugging memory or graphics cards or disc drives.

If there is no power switch in the PSU (very unlikely, but possible in extremely shit quality devices) then you should unplug it from the wall.

First before disassembling anything try if you reach it with your fingers blind. You can see from unblocked RAM slots how it looks like and where you need to poke so it's easy. Nothing in there will bite you.

Ok, I reconnected the lot and now my computer makes a long noisy beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep... something seems to be wrong I'm afraid.

edit: Google tells me to remove and re-install the memory. (again)

    Go for it.

If you're very unlucky the RAM slots on your motherboard has damaged from the fall and whole board needs to be replaced. Most likely it's one slot damaged and you can work around it by moving the two RAM sticks from the slots where they originally were into the two empty spaces instead.

Check the location of the beep:
    - If it's from your Graphics card you have failed to reattach an auxiliary power cable (an extra cable to the top-back of the card). Reattaching this will fix the problem without any additional side-effects, this is pretty foolproof - there is only one type of cable which will fit, and it will only fit one way.
    - If it's coming from the board, you have either not seated the memory correctly (check that the memory is fitted nice and snug and the crimps are correctly locked), accidentally unplugged the CPU fan (check the cable from your CPU fan to make sure it's correctly seated in the two/three pin board slot), or accidentally unplugged an auxiliary power cable from the board (if this is the case resolving it is a little more complex, as which auxiliary motherboard power ports are required varies based on the model of motherboard and / or power supply).

re-opened the pc, and noticed the tabs are useless as they cant shut properly. the card cant get deep enough in for the tabs to fit. Or I might be too careful.

Havent touched the graphics card, will check the fan.

    Cheers for the answer

@vesseblah: my computer worked on 1 RAM after the fall; so that part is (WAS?) fine.

Note that the RAM sticks have a hole not quite in the middle, you need to have it right way around. It does need quite a lot of force to 'click' in. When you push it far enough the locking tabs on ends will automatically turn down, until that keep pushing.

If you think you've used ridiculous amount of force and it still doesnt go down first doublecheck the notch is in right place, and doublecheck there's nothing in the slot preventing you from pushing the RAM all the way down and locked.
