Reece Witherspoon: why "I am American citizen!" as she is arrested

    Source: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-22407280

Can anyone tell me why would anyone, but especially someone like Reece Witherspoon (who is born and bred American), be almost screaming at the top of their lungs "I am a US citizen!" to an American policeman?

I mean, you never hear of anyone in any other country ever saying such a thing, celebrity or not...

Drunk people say and do stupid things. I remember when I worked at Dominos Pizza, when we were about to close, a group of drunks wandered in and demanded pizza. We had turned off the oven so couldn't give them food, so told them to leave. One of them starts screaming about how her father is the CEO of Dominos and how she'd get him to fire all of us.

Obvious lie. Alcohol makes people stupid; nobody is immune.

She was drunk. I believe the cop told her to stay in the car and she got out and screamed about being a us citizen and having the right to stand on US soil or some such. I'm sure it made sense after a few (or more) drinks.

Drunk people say stupid shit. Though back in the day when I still worked security, I noticed drunk + inflated ego from being a celebrity is a catastrophic combo.

I saw this on the news, it was hilarious.

Reese: "You can't arrest me, do you know who I am! Do you know my name?"

PO: "I don't need to know your name just yet ma'am"

I thought he was all class. Being drunk doesn't excuse you from anything. At least she has a bit of humility in the aftermath.

    Entitlement issues ahoy.
"In order to maintain a tolerant society, the society must be intolerant of intolerance." Paradox of tolerance

Oh, I'm sorry. I thought this was America!

Pretty sure I've behaved more cringeworthy when hammered and around the police.

Liked her in Walk the Line. Great performance.

New concept OP, it's called being drunk and not thinking about what you do.
    Important and interesting thread.

I guess she was trying to make a point about her having rights and stuff. She's probably one of those people who think that she's blessed with being an american-born, free individual, while all the rest of the world is totally oppressed. She probably also never heard of the partiot act.
