Honestly I think its more of a European thing then a Dutch thing.

A had a American room-mate once who told me the general stance of Americans regarding immigrants:

As long as they work and pay taxes we don't really care if they assimilate or integrate

He also told me the stance of his French room-mate which he personally found racist

The French stance was that every immigrant should assimilate and for all intents and purposes forget their cultural background. This stance is also generally what Dutch people believe.

Racism is a bit to strong since they don't hate foreigners but it's more of a sense of unfounded superiority towards people with different skin colours and certain geographic area's.

It's more of a social matter than actual racism. It's just that most immigrants end up with low paid or no jobs due to the lack of job skills and limited or no grasp of the Dutch language. On the one hand this makes the general populace believe they're paying welfare for the rest of the world, which is partly true.
Another issue that arises with low income is crime, which gets passed on to the next generation far too often which starts with vandalism and the like. There are plenty of statistics which show the percentage of foreigners in prison is higher than the percentage of foreigners on the total population.

While my stance on immigrants is the same as the American way of thinking stated above (if they work and try to integrate it's all good to me), it is understandable why some see immigrants as a whole as an issue. But sadly this way of thinking further alienates minority groups which then band together creating a large concentration of low income households in certain neighborhoods, which amplifies the crime issues.

So yeah racism is a bit hard to see as white or black, the same as everything else in the world. There is always another side, even if you chose to ignore it.

What kind of food would a real American restaurant serve?
There is a lot of diversity in restaurants in most cities. Macdonalds along all highways and in railway stations, Burger king idem, Chinese, French, Belgium, Italian, Japanses, pancake houses - do you bring something new in food, atmosphere etc? I believe any idea can be made to work but you may have to put in a lot of effort.

Examples of nice cities to visit: The inner cities of Delft, Leiden, Utrecht; places like in http://www.vestingsteden.nl/index.php?taalID=3 .

Our policies on drugs seem to make our country interesting to those wanting to smoke a joint - but imo this is mostly for tourists.
