Which was dismissed and closed very quickly, with a copy/paste reply that basically says legacy realm discussion isn't allowed becaue it was settled with links to a bunch of other posts where people had started threads on the topic.
The irony of course is that the fact this topic keeps coming up over and over and over to the point where a mod needs to keep a copy/pase lock reply on hand indicates the matter is far from "nothing left to discuss" on it.
Clearly there is a strong desire in the community to want to discuss it still, despite the fact it has been discussed in the past.
Things can and do change over time, attitude of players, stances by companies, etc. Just because there were a few long discussions on the matter a few years ago doesn't mean it shouldn't be discussed now. The game is different, the marketplace is different, players attitudes are largely different.
This is clearly a topic the MMO community is NOT done with, despite what the mods may think. The boards should be a place to discuss issues the community wants to. Having a thread on legacy realms every couple of weeks isn't hurting anything.
Squelching discussion of the topic feels more like mod's opinions on the matter.
Agreed, absolutely. The reasons Darsithis listed aren't just cause for closing a thread. "There is nothing left to discuss" is a personal opinion, and "Blizzard has stated it isn't happening" does not in any way lower the value of a discussion.
Threads shouldn't be closed just for the sake of tidiness. If it is a topic that does not have a good reason to be banned, and if there is an interest in the topic, it is not the place of any moderator to prevent discussion from taking place.
