    Newbie to STO

Hey, so, yeah, I just thought "What the heck" and made a Star Trek Online account. Made a Starfleet Engineer, was promoted to Captain of the U.S.S. Progress, and now... What? I'd love to join a fleet, but I'm not quite sure how to go about... Doing.. that.

Basically, I'm a total noob. Any pointers for... Anything? Haha. Any good sites to get info on ...Whatever "Profession" equivalents there are?

In the same boat. I'm just happily bumbling along on my green alien lady in a bikini. I tried it when it went F2P and have dipped in and out a few times, but never really sat down to play. Quite enjoying myself now though, and kicking myself for not getting into it earlier.

You don't quite need to start looking for guides right off the bat, you can get to about level 30 before you can actually make any proper mistakes.

One thing I can suggest is, try each type of ship before you get your last one (level 40 or 45 I think). The first one you get is an escort, which is a fast, easy to maneuver, high damage output ship that can equip cannons (high damage, narrow firing arc weapons). You can also get cruisers (very durable ships with lots of weapon emplacements that rely on outlasting enemies and providing limited support to their allies) or science vessels (the "caster" ships that rely on debuffing enemies, controlling the battlefield and also supporting their allies). Your type of captain doesn't influence how your ship performs, you simply get specific abilities according to your captain type. I ran a science captain who flew cruisers for instance (the engineering ship).

    stick to one weapon type.
for raw dmg you want either plasma or anti-matter.
plasma isn't very good for pvp cause its easy to get shields that fuck it over(cause the borg use plasma).

Still tinkering with a Romulan myself. Though I'm liking the new Klingon stuff too.
    Sir Robin, the Not-Quite-So-Brave-As-Sir-Lancelot.
Who had nearly fought the Dragon of Angnor.
Who had almost stood up to the vicious Chicken of Bristol.
And who had personally wet himself, at the Battle of Badon Hill.

Yeah, I went with a Klingon (because the sexy green ladies wear bikini's. Don't judge me.) this time around. Having a lot of fun with it so far.

duty missions are like , you have extra officers who are not on the bridge who sort of just hang out inside the ship that u can give orders to , to say go scan an asteroid for ore or what ever . like little away missions so if u put as many of them on away missions as u can they earn u XP and expertise so just before you are going to log out put them all on duty missions as the time it takes them to complete the missions is counted even if your not logged in Ahh yes I went federation and am up to captain rank , theres some really huge ships to get , but I take it all the really cool stuff is when u get to lvl 50. I also cant wait to get quantim slipstream drive at max lvl
