Is there a use for powershot?

As the title say, is there a use for powershot anywehere? If there is I have yet to see it. I tried it out over my glaive toss just to check it out. And man, it just seems so useless to me. But maybe there's certain bosses or something its useful on, I plan on sticking with my glaive toss but like I said I was just curious if anyone uses it?

A few alt hunters used it for Heroic Lei Shen for KB'ing the adds but that was about it. I don't believe Kenny or I have ever used it this tier, especially with the change to its damage and CD (IIRC: 25% reduction in both).

pushback is nice in PvP for when my healer has 2 melee DPS on him and is usually used for burst damage when going for a kill but in PvE it's kinda useless as it does less single target damage than GT and less AoE damage compared to barrage.

Yeah sorry shoulda specified lol. I haven't tried it with PvP yet just PvE, I stick with GT on pvp, maybe ill give it a try u make a good point with a little peeling help. But yeah with pve I cant see much use lol

Also seen it used to try to flee. Push the enemy back then run the other way.

Not really, it has some advantages, but overall I'd say GT trumps it.

Glaive Toss and Powershot essentially work in the same way in terms of their spread but Glaive Toss always comes ahead in DPS. Barrage however has a much different spread and is useful, especially for Council.

So for single target boss fights does GT trump barrage? Never tried barrage, just love my GT lol. And, again, not doing anything special no heroic raids yet, and not looking to be #1 on anything, I'm just the kinda person that wants to know everything about everything that i'm playing lol. try to get the best set up possbile

Usually yes, unless a fight has bursts of AoE like Lei Shen, you'll want barrage for every ball lightning wave.

GT will do more damage single target or fights where your Glaives will hit all secondary targets you want. Barrage has a massive spread range and does similar damage to GT but is a longer cast than the GCD so it will do less DPS single target, however as Dyveriate said Barrage is good for wide spread AoE/Cleave like the Ball Lightning on Lei Shen or being able to hit every target on Council.

Note with GT I said "secondary targets you want to hit". This is why you might not see every Hunter take Barrage for the same fight. I take GT for Tortos because my job is to focus damage on the Whirl Turtles so GT does a better job than Barrage for that, but Barrage would do more AoE damage if all I wanted was to maximize my DPS.

Mk, ty for all the advice and suggestions (haven't done the Lei Shen fight yet) but I'll keep the advice handy

It would be nice to see a glyph (preferably a minor one) that could remove the knockback effect such that if in subsequent patches the damage became competitive, it would be a single target alternative from Glaive Toss. Although I suppose there wouldn't be much to distinguish the two at that point in a PvE context. If they really wanted to get creative, they could give it to Marksman (where it kinda fits thematically) and add a different, more interesting AoE ability to the bottom tier.

Baseline MM Powershot without a Knockback would essentially be an Aimed Shot for all intents and purposes yes? I'd personally like Glaive Toss a baseline ability for all specs and have the 90 talents reworked to be enhancing effects rather than actual abilities.

Seems about right it would be just another hard hitting ability with a long cast time (even long than the one we have lol) IMO that is

EDIT: IMO it would be kidna cool if they turned into a like AOE aimed shot that procs (hits all targets within 8 yards with aimed shot maybe like 85% normal aimed shot dmg?) I think they'd be kinda cool

Originally Powershot wouldn't cancel Camo until the cast ended, which made it a really annoying and sometimes powerful (if it crit) opener in arenas. Since 5.2 (I think) it cancels Camo as soon as it starts making it pretty easy to interrupt or react to, so that doesn't really work anymore.

I've never ever used it in PvE.

I didn't necessarily mean for those changes to be linked together, just as differing options. I do like the AoE idea, with options for knockback or not.

My job in Tortos is to Misdirect the bats to the kiter, so I find Barrage more effective there in ensuring I get the new ones (especially when things get cluttered) and if I spin as its channels, I can reapply some threat to the old ones (and get a little damage on anything else standing in the process). I agree with how you distinguish it from GT, although I guess it depends on how cooperative your turtles are in staying together as to how effective GT is at hitting them all (outside of right as they spawn).

I still find it better than the other 2 talents for PVP even after nerfs. Not only is it good for targeted knockback, but it also interrupts casts.

  19. #19
IMO tho you cant really count on it as an interrupt unless you wanna interrupt like a res or something, by the time PS finished casting most heals/dmg spells are already done, just counting on i Maybe interrupting i guess thats the way i see it lol.

It was useful for pvp burst followed with a kill command and blink strike to take alot of health from a player and it would kill low geared people very easily. Then it was nerfed, now it's only use seems to be trying to knock people off high cliffs.
