Got a new job, lost it after the first day..

I was hired at Mcdonalds. I went to orientation today and it was okay. So comes the part where they need 2 forms of ID. They told me two of any combination between photo ID, birth certificate, and social security card is accepted. All I had was my birth certificate and SS card. My photo ID expired last year and I haven't had the extra money to renew it since I've been out of work. So they tell me that I was all set. Come the last 20 minutes of the orientation, they tell me I need a photo ID or I can't work there. It makes no sense because they originally said I was all set because I did have 2 forms of ID. So I guess the reason I am asking this is. Do I really need a photo ID, or are they telling me this because they don't want to hire me? The person who recruited me (Not the person who did my orientation), I told her I didn't have a photo ID and she said as long as I had a birth certificate and my SS card I could get a job.

The only comment I can make is that you gotta spend money to make money. Time to get a photo ID! Best of luck.

Is it too late to just go get a photo ID...? Do you really have absolutely no money at all to get a photo ID? How much does that cost?

    Who cares bro, its Mcdonalds.

Worst place to work ever, ever, ever.

Some people will say something is ok and someone else will say it isnt.

    People do things differently.

Bottom Line: Don't trust ANYONE, especially when it comes to a job. Everyone is lieing to you because they don't care.

You need two documents because you need to establish both identity and ability to work in the US. Your two documents establish ability to work in the US but not your identity, because there's no photo. Please see http://www.twc.state.tx.us/news/efte...nts_lists.html

i think it might have been just photo ID....in my country without some offical document that has your photo on it, you cant do jack in administration. why didnt you show your old expired photo ID. if you couldnt get a new one, that means you still should have the old one....maybe its expired, but still has your photo on it.

    This should help:

    Documentation

A variety of documents are acceptable for I-9 purposes. The employee must supply either:

One document that establishes both identity and employment eligibility (on List A on the I-9) OR
One document that establishes identity (on List B), together with another document that establishes employment eligibility (on List C)
All documentation must be unexpired as of April 3, 2009[5]

Documents that may be used under "List A" of the I-9 form to establish both identity and employment eligibility include:

    Unexpired U.S. Passport
    U.S. Passport Card
An unexpired foreign passport with an I-551 stamp, or with Form I-94 attached which indicates an unexpired employment authorization
A Permanent Resident Card (often called a "green card") or Alien Registration Receipt Card with photograph
    An Unexpired Temporary Resident Card
    An Unexpired Employment Authorization Card
An Unexpired Employment Authorization Document issued by the Dept. of Homeland Security that includes a photograph (Form I-766)

Documents that may be used under "List B" of the I-9 to establish identity include:

Driver's license or I.D. card issued by a U.S. state or outlying possession of the U.S., provided it contains a photograph or identifying information such as name, date of birth, gender, height, eye color and address.
Federal or state I.D. card provided it contains a photograph or identifying information such as name, date of birth, gender, height, eye color and address.
    School I.D. with photograph
U.S. Armed Services identification card or draft record
    Voter Registration Card
U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Card
    Native American tribal document
Driver's license issued by a Canadian government authority

For individuals under the age of 18 only, the following documents may be used to establish identity:

    School record or report card
    Clinic, doctor or hospital record
    Day-care or nursery school record

Employees who supply an item from List B must also supply an item from List C

Documents that may be used under "List C" of the I-9 to establish employment eligibility include:

A U.S. Social Security card issued by the Social Security Administration (Note: cards that specify "not valid for employment" are not acceptable.)
A birth certificate issued by the U.S. State Department (Form FS-545 or Form DS-1350) Original or certified copy of a birth certificate from the U.S. or an outlying possession of the U.S., bearing an official seal
    A Certificate of U.S. Citizenship (Form N-560 or N-561)[6]
A Certificate of Naturalization (Form N-550 or N-570)[6]
    Native American tribal document
    U.S. Citizen I.D. Card (Form I-197)
An I.D. Card for the use of a Resident Citizen in the United States (Form I-179)
An unexpired employment authorization card issued by the Dept. of Homeland Security (other than those included on List A)

U.S. citizens who have lost their social security card can apply for a duplicate at the Social Security Administration.

TLDR version: you need one form from list B which is all photo IDs AND one from list C. Two forms of ID from List C don't cut it.

Course this assumes you're in the US.

I really don't understand how you jump to the conclusion that they don't want to hire you because they said they need your picture. Just go get a fucking picture, lol.

I'm assuming if you really don't have money to get a photo ID, the government should be able to assist you for one, but check with your state for details :\

Expired IDs don't work? That's kinda surprising. I mean, really they just need it for the picture.

To the best of my knowledge, this is the correct answer.

I did. I gave my expired ID card and she said she couldn't accept it. I was told "I can't have you cost the store 10,000 dollars" those are her exact words.

Had an employee here get fired on the first day. He decided not to show up for work, not even call in.
Human progress isn't measured by industry. It's measured by the value you place on a life.

    Just, be kind.

You're better off not trying to get a job with a 'big' corporate chain place like McDonalds that plays by all the rules and find a local lawn care business or something and work under the table for a while to start a bank roll.

I have until 1PM tomorrow to get one. I was told it would cost me 50 dollars.

Yeah, you wouldn't have to deal with totally unreasonable burdens like providing identification

The thing that annoys me.. I was told all I needed was my SS card and birth certificate. I was told not to worry about it if my photo ID was expired. Even up to the point where they printed copies of our forms of ID, I asked if I was all set and I was told yes. Then 20 minutes before the orientation was done "Oh you need a valid photo ID"
