Question about "American" tv?

So i googled my question but i couldn't find anything. I called it American tv but i think it's in Brittain aswell or atleast that's where i asume the series come from! [b]Sorry if this offends anyone, I don't mean to.[/i]
But the question is When i watch series such as Game of Thrones or True Blood i see women naked showing pretty much everything, ofcourse not detailed such as in adult movies~ but rather exposed still. But you don't really see men naked more than showing their chest and sometimes a butt.

Is there any reason for this? sorry if this is a stupid question but i'm really curious

In Game of Thrones' case... The network it's on, HBO, are notorious for this... The executives must be pervs or something.

For some reason, full frontal nudity on women is acceptable, but no one wants to see dicks (although I'm pretty sure that it's been shown at least once or twice on Game of Thrones).

Not sure why, but as an American I have always found that odd myself.

Edit: If I had to venture a guess, I would say it has something to do with mostly straight men being in control of television for the most part.

Yes i mean HBO, And i think that if you could show one you should be able to show the other too. I wasn't really sure if it would somehow change the rating or if there any specific rules?

The rules for what can and can't be shown on cable networks, premium networks and what is and isn't proper content in any combination of instances is pretty complex and ridiculous.

The reality is that men and women both show the exact same amount of skin on networks like HBO. However, we as a society view the women as showing more simply because their breasts have been made a more sexual symbol than a mans. You don't get upclose shots of vaginas, nor do we see Peniscam shots.

You aren't allowed to show erect penises and, as nude scenes are often in a sexual setting, it is hardly that surprising.

its a double standard kind of thing.. nobody cares when a female shows her boobs.. regardless of the size.. but if a guy shows his penis and its average, or even small.. thats an ego thing. but people react differently. its ok for the girl to have small breasts but lets ridicule the guy for being inadequate. now going a bit further.. not every well hung guy is a great actor. its just a physical limitation that American society hasnt accepted yet. we still are not very comfy with nudity. so would you rather see an average sized guy that can act? or a well endowed guy that cant act at all?

wish we could just not care so much.. but thats asking a ton. maybe one day we can accept nudity.. but it wont be in my lifetime im afraid.

Well it isn't always the case that they never show male full frontal, but I would assume its just easier to get away with so to speak for women since mostly all you see is hair down there vs full frontal on a man showing everything. Of course it could just be that male actors are worried about showing what they are packing so to speak and refuse to do it.

I don't know if you follow True blood but you do see more than a pair of boobs, it is often covered by some tuft hair though.

You score more points with female nudity than male nudity, and in fact too much male nudity can even give a show a homoerotic side which isn't appropriate for every show's viewership (in terms of smart marketing, not in terms of morality or anything).

I'd say the ratio of dick to bush in GoT is a lot closer than you'd think.

Sure, boobs are all over the place. But so are bare chests on men. I'd say it's a societal problem that one of those is taboo and one isn't.

I think it often has something to do with the desired audience and many people think sword and violence stuff -> men, drama and feelings -> women. So programs which want more men as audience often show boobs or more in addition. The real question is: why don't you see more nude men in things like Sex and the city?

Game of Thrones doesn't seem to have as much qualms with showing a penis as most other television shows, but I think it's mainly a cultural thing: A penis is often perceived as 'gross.' By everyone. Not so much for a vagina. Now; this, in part, is of course because the penis protrudes, whereas... Well; let's face it: Those same series don't tend to show a vagina with spread legs either. I think most people see it as pretty much the same thing, only a male will have the 'spread legs problem' by default because of protrusion.

Males are, however, more often shown bare-chested than females are. Again; it's cultural. For some odd reason, the female chest is seen as a secondary sex characteristic, and most people seem to forget that, biologically speaking, this is equally true for the male chest. It's just a cultural double standard.

Why is nude on tv something weird?? Personally im more shocked to see some guy getting gunned down, or some bloody corpses lying on the ground.

Men enjoy much more seeing a naked woman than the opposite.
I mean, i know some guys who watch Spartacus just to see some boobies and vaginas.
Also, society values ​​much more feminine beauty than the male beauty, actually male body is considered ugly. So showing a naked woman will be more profitable than showing a naked man.
