Australians, how do you DEAL with this? (Warning: Spiders inside)

    http://www.floridanature.org/photos/...es,_200205.jpg

Seriously... if I had to deal with that on a daily basis, I'd build a raft and float myself back to America.

MOD EDIT: Please make an url of the spider image you want to show instead of posting it here as an image.

Good luck getting there with the great barrier reef to contend with.

    flamethrower I'd reckon.

after that, burn the house to be sure it didn't spawn any extra critters.
after that, leg it to be extra sure.

    Christ, what a monster

That thing is a monster. Usually the biggest spiders I get around here are about the size of my hand. I tend to ignore them as they're just huntsmen, their bite does hurt but they arn't venomous and they get all the more annoying insects.

But THAT thing, that thing would be banished to the firey depths of hell.

I just leave them alone. They kill flies. Flies are far worse than spiders.
If you are particularly bold, you could use a Shiny Ditto. Do keep in mind though, this will infuriate your opponents due to Ditto's beauty. Please do not use Shiny Ditto. You have been warned.

You deal with this by seasoning it with salt and pepper. Then you grill it. Look at the size of those legs. That's almost like a king crab.

    Huntsmans?

They're not dangerous. They look big and scary as fuck, but are super-timid and will generally run away from people. If you do corner one and it has no choice but to bite you in self-defence or get killed, it stings and swells and that's about it.

Huntsmans are pretty neat. They generally live in the corners and dark places of your house, actively hunting other insects like roaches. They're roach-killing machines.

Really, it's the small spiders you have to look out for. White-tails and redbacks are common enough in poorly-cleaned houses and outside sheds and such, and those fuckers are reeeeeeeeally nasty.

Seriously... you could feed a family of 4 with that thing. If I ever have spider problems, I swear I'm hiring an Ausy to take care of it.

Oh trust me, I know about the small spiders. I got bit by a black widow on the toilet before. That was NOT fun.

Those are actually just huntsmen, non-venomous and generally non aggressive. They're great for pest control.

Same cant be said for this fucker.

The big spiders eat the little ones and the little ones are the deadly ones. Hell I'm happy with even the non-redbacks here...they take up space that keeps redbacks out and eat lots of flies come Summer. We have an understanding.

I put a bowl over them and slide a piece of card under it to trap it then take it outside.

I had one of those climb out of a bowl of cornflakes I'd just poured one morning.

I can actually agree with this, I had a bad flea problem from the stupid cat. We had a spider problem too... and kind of decided to leave the spider be. No more fleas.

Make sure you feed it lots and it won't hurt you . Ive only seen one spider that big once and half a can of fly spray and it was dead. No issue.

Just as an aside - it's "Aussie". Pronounced ozzy (not ossie) BUT NEVER SPELLED THAT WAY =D

My brother has a bunch of Canadian mates and I get facial tics every time they say "down in Oz" or "you ossies" =p

Okay, so worst spider problem I ever had was when a spider laid eggs and I didn't know. Baby spiders coming down from the ceiling non stop for days. That was really bad.

And sorry, "Aussie" it is then

Its about picking which animals you are ok with.

Cats are good because they kill rodents, and rodents spread disease and eat our food (cats eat their own weird foods, so we aren't in competition).

Spiders are good because they eat the worst bugs, and other bugs are super gross - so spiders are an acceptable solution.

Hairless spiders are weird to me though - I feel like they're too obcessed with self-image.

I suspect people further north in the warmer states have it worse.

As for me, I generally scream like a girly man, whoose out and try to smash them from a few feet away with a broom handle. When that doesn't work I'll gas the room with Mortein to the point that I'll have to sleep down the other end of the house.
