Lightbulb What if Wow stopped after the next expansion?

What if Wow stopped after the next expansion? If blizz intended to wrap everything into one final expansion and then set the game on its final adventure, how would you feel about it if they announced that was their intent?

If they did do this how much of the universe would you expect this next xpac to span? Such as the emerald dream, south sea and burning legion.

If not this next one then what if it were the one after next?

I could hardly blame them for such a move, with the age of wow and how its sub's have been dropping, though i have no doubt they would skyrocket at the launch of the next xpac. If they get titan nailed down during the dev cycle of the next xpac then they could redirect much of their dev staff to that project and push out more content for it, what they might hope would replace Wow.

Why do you feel the need to ask? It feels like you're just trying to stir arguments.

This is correct. Also, they've stated that they are working on expansions following the next...so Blizzard's word disagrees with your worthless question.

What would happen if a fish had feathers ... and wings ... and legs ... and a bill ... and sounded like a duck? Are flocks of ducks actually schools of fish?

So, this is pretty much another WOW is dying thread?

Well, i like to ask what other think of things, the thought poped into my head after seeing Boa weapons drop from Garrosh. I always thought the game would end at level 100 and when i saw that the idea of the game ending came to mind. Why? Is an argument all you can see happening in this thread?

I would celebrate, cause this means finally wc4 will appear and the conclusion to a game that lasted almost 10 years.

    The problem just is:

Its a MMO, MMO means farming and gating content. It doesn't mean super complicated complex story mode and action on every 10 meters. Its not Frozen Throne. In Frozen Throne something similar happened to WC3 it was the only and last expansion of that game, and so much happened there.....its amazing. Maybe with the exclusion of cata, all the wow xpacks had their origin in frozen throne. Where did appear the first panda? Where did appear the first old god? Where was the Lichkingarthas created? When did we travel to outland?(actually beyond the dark portal not, that was Draenor well and alive as a world) Where did we see the nagas?

a wow expansion can't possible cover the emerald nightmare, high seas, tomb of sargeras, azshara + n'zoth, burning legion worlds such as argos, the Titan pantheon and what not in just 1 expansion thats totally out of discussion. They can't do it.

Cause its a mmo and devs can only make a limited number of raids to cover the content. A RTS could easily do it, a single RPG, too...

All blizzard can do is to change their business model and stop to make xpacks and do it all with big content patches aka DLCs.

Mhmm. That's exactly the only thing that will happen with this thread. Cuz asking a question like this is such an infuriating, mind-numbing waste of time most people won't be able to help but lash out.

If the next expansion were the last, a major company would lose out on hundred of millions of dollars, if not billions of dollars, that subsequent expansions would inevitably make. For no particularly fathomable reason. Except, I suppose, because for some guy somewhere
    thought poped into my head
    .

What if the NFL ended after the coming season? What if Exxon-Mobile left the gasoline market next year? What if Subway stops selling sandwiches when their current supply of deli meat runs out? In each case, nothing really happens, except millions of potential customers scratch their heads and bring their business to a competitor while Blizzard employees similarly scratch their heads and find new jobs and Blizzard executives weep, facepalm, and moan "why oh why did we listen to Frieght?"

Or, you know, we can all accept that nothing short of the apocalypse will prevent at least 2 more expansions, and stop asking silly questions for which we have very little relevant insight.

Last two expansions have been terribad. If they fail one more time, maybe it's best if Blizzard packs up and leaves the gaming industry.

EQ hit it's 19th expansion with a peak of 500k subs, 14 years later. I can see Wow continuing for quite some time.

How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

Wow is amazing and will continue forever. A higher power has blessed my soul with the knowledge that we are all saved and will find salvation in eternal WoW. Amen. Bless us all.

As long as the expansion was good I'd be ok with it. MoP would be a terrible expansion to stop at. If they had a good ending, sargeras died, yada yada I'd be ok with it. Assuming they bring little things to the game afterwards like making old content challenging & promoting us to do old content in a group setting. Then the game would do alright for awhile after the expansion.

As much as I agree that "What If" question are pointless, I believe they can be interesting to ponder about. If WoW just stopped, I would just think to myself, "had to happen at some point I guess...".

    Nothing last forever.

Do you know what 6.6 million times $15 a month is?

I'll tell you what it is, it's a huge reason not to arbitrarily hit the OFF switch on WoW.

That would be stupid, if Sargeras dies then there's no more Warcraft franchise. It's like if SWTOR released an expansion where you kill the Dark Side of the Force.

Brings good points to the table, especially about the Frozen Throne being a starting point of most expacs. I for one would love to see an expac with some dang Meat to it, one that actually had some big story progression to it. Pandaria, though i looked forward to seeing panda land in BC and Wrath because the enjoyment i had with the Brewmaster in Frozen Throne, has been a let down. Feels like there's less to see in this expac than any of the previous ones, though i did skip out after complete'ing most of the 80-85 quests due to burnout.

Quite wrong actually. Because warcraft universe as more than one source of evil. We know at least two with sargeras and his demons on one side and the old gods on the other side. They are both evil, yet against one another.

And even if we killed "the dark side" they are numerous evil ennemies who aren't tied to sargeras at all. Cataclysm was a whole expansion without sargeras as background. Bad guys will still be there even if the hyper bad evil in chief is dead. (For exemple I would LOVE to ear more about the nathrezims, you know, demons who managed to corrupt sargeras from a virtuous paragon of titanic perfection into crazy burning legion commander)

I would feel sad, as I feel the game has at least two more expansions in it. But I would also know that it wouldn't be the end of Warcraft. Even if the mmo were retired, they would still make new games, novels, and other things to continue the franchise.

I would expect it to be a return of the Burning Legion. Something dealing with the BL and maybe titans too, to wrap things up. Many things would be left unresolved though, as they would want to leave story threads for future games/novels/comics/etc. So for example I wouldn't expect to them cram in every villain they could.

it'd probably feel rushed like the ending of some cancelled tv show.

Pretty much this. We have to finish up the Old Gods/Azshara, Zandalari, and Burning Legion all in one expansion? Too many bad and/or unfinished endings.

I would find a new game to play?
