Gave it another try a few days ago since I got Storm Legion free, tried an adventure zone, then logged out. The gameplay is just way too clunky for me to enjoy it.
exactly how I feel about WoW; well sort of; uninspiring is the word I prefer.
Glad you tried it though, your whole 5 minutes is an awesome effort to adapt to a different game than you are accustomed to. If I only gave every game as much of a chance and effort as you, I'd never play anything!
Hasn't this add been around for like over a month now? I've seen it many times here.
Not exactly, lots of games can pull you in within the first few minutes. I don't know what it is about Rift, there is SOMETHING off about it though. I have played many different MMORPGs for a decent amount of time and enjoyed them, but Rift I was only able to handle until about level 6 or so when i logged out to extreme boredom. Tried twice even. I really don't know WHY though. This is obviously different for every person, I know, I am not a blind hater, the game simply didn't click with me.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0H3-N9zoI5c Amazing video of 60+ devilsaurs raiding Undercity!
My God, what a horrible creation. People seeing what they want? Thank God they tried to shy away from that. I know it pisses me off when I'm in an heroic raid, yet in the back of my head all I can think is 'some casual player is playing a heroic dungeon and not wiping.' -Vodkarn
I tried rift, like it at first, but now i can't stand it
what i miss though is Warhammer online, god i wish EA would let it go F2P
That's it.... I'd like that 30 secs of my life back
Those first few minutes can be deceptive. Wow..bored within 5 minutes...got to level cap @70 only because my bf at the time leveled w/me the entire way...then discovered raiding, fell in love, discovered pvp and fell in love again. Been playing pretty much ever since. SWTOR....fell in love instantly, but ended up not all that impressed w/endgame...Rift has been growing on me, steadily. Glad I gave the game a second chance, I bought the game when it first came out then ended up unsubbing...got pulled back in recently and it's been great.
Love the ad, although it's an obvious (but funny) swipe at MoP :P

To be honest the 50-60 lvling is completely boring and rubbish if you choose to do quests (even when you do them first time)... it's even more boring than lvling a damn alt from 85 to 90 for a 4rth-5th time. I've done 2 lvl 50+ zones and they look generic and the enemies are boring. So yeah... Rift is boring for me, not sure about endgame though. I wish I could lvl faster to try the raids really so I could judge better.
That doesn't seem to be bashing any game though. It reminds me more of Coke-Cola advertisements w/ bears drinking sodas.
I can't think of how many movies have terribly slow first acts (I'm looking at every super hero movie that took more than 20 minutes to establish who this person is and what makes them superhuman and why I should care), tv shows that didn't get amazing until later on, or even books with too much prologue. Sometimes you gotta slog through the crap to enjoy the candy you have later on for a treat.
If one doesn't enjoy the basic gameplay or concepts of a game there is not a lot of reason to stick around though. Or "suffer through" it all.
What I mean is that if say the mechanics of a Mage or Cleric in Rift don't seem interesting to you at level 10, being level 60 will not change that at all. You'd still operate as a Mage or Rogue at level 10 or whatever.
Gameplay doesn't usually change that dramatically in an MMORPG. And certainly not in Rift.
Ad is amazing, funny as hell but with rift I just can't get into it, feels to slow for me, got a level 50 warrior and bought storm legion but never managed to get back into rift =/ oh well
Oh you guys, ignoring the panda <3
moonwhile my mostly-champion kelari warrior is level 32, I love not paying a sub, so much more flexibility with my game time
Rift would be worth trying if people who made it could understand that using easily readable font for basic UI and chat is actually a good idea. Or at least letting people select font.
