something is wrong with our microwave.....

okay so our microwave doesnt have much problem cooking food......except for popcorn. lately everytime i have put it into the microwave the popcorn has come out burnt. i tried putting it in for less time still comes out burnt only with less burnt popcorn kernals and more seeds. when it turns on its always made this sort of wierd noise in the motor compartment ever since we got it. it sounds like a sort of rumbling/humming type of noise. this wasnt always a problem but now its gotten louder and after we replaced the revolvoing tray cause the old one broke the popcorn has continued to be burnt. is it time for a new microwave we just got this one less than a year ago for i think it was 500$ not sure.

That is because the magnetron has become unstable and is putting out irregular wattage. Follow these steps to fix it:

    1) Put a fork in a Tupperware container, then fill that container about half full of water, and then freeze it in your freezer.
    2) After it is a solid block of ice with the fork inside, put it in the microwave. Working through the ice then having the sudden metal will reset the magnetron back to its factory default wattage and it should fix this issue.

    Infracted

okay i will try to convince my mother to do that but she's quite insistent nothing is wrong with it. could there be any other thing wrong with it? also is it safe to eat food made in the microwave until this is fixed? also that does sound quite dangerous. we dont really have the money for a new microwave.

Maybe an over obvious answer but, don't you have warranty if it is less then 1 year old?

You get more radiation eating a banana than you get out of a microwave. As long as the food is cooked properly, there is nothing to worry about.

Not to mention all microwaves do is vibrate at a frequency to boil water. Not like you'll get ball cancer.

I wouldn't use it until you reset the magnetron, but you can do whatever you want. Without testing it I couldn't tell you if food is cooked properly or not.

That sounds like a lot of work, it also sounds dangerous. Driving to the store and buying a new one would take like 30 minutes and be significantly easier. I'd do that. Microwaves are cheap.

Don't you have some kind of warranty where you live? Usually if a product is less than a year old it's covered by a warranty.

A fork in the microwave?? Wasn't the #1 rule of microwaves never to cook metal objects in them?

You sound like a troll but I don't know enough about microwaves to refute you... Be cautious OP

Surely this would cause the fork to heat up enough to tor the surrounding ice into steam and with no way of escape (due to being surround in ice) cause a steam explosion when the pressure is enough to overcome the ice block and result in a severely damaged or more likely destroyed Microwave ?

OP, Cook the Popcorn on a lower setting, and shake it every could of seconds.

Go to the store and pick up a new one for about $30.
