    computer(GPU) idling at high temps?

not sure if this is normal or not, but my computer is idling at really high temps, just the GPU, with nothing running on my computer apart from chrome the temperature is listed as 75c, doesn't sound right! and then if i play a game, basically any game it shoots up to 100c and i have to have the fan on 60% which sounds like a aereoplane taking off in my room!
now if i put my hand at the back of my pc where the GPU fan is, the air doesn't feel that hot, so could the temperature sensor just be broken? can that happen?

    card is evga 560 ti
    thanks

That is definitely too high temps. Few things first

Is it a new GPU? No? Have you cleaned the fan lately, ever?

It could just be clogged up with dust

Do you have an overclock on it?

How many monitors do you have plugged into it? Do the temps change at all if you only have one cable connected to it?

What software did you use to monitor?

Try monitoring it with multitudes; Speedfan, Hwmonitor and Afterburner.

If they all say it's idling at 75c, which is my card under full load, something's definitely wrong and you should contact EVGA.

i was using EVGA precision and CPUID HWmonitor. ill contact evga when i get home, or tomorrow depending on the time.

i don't really remember when it started doing this, just noticed once the temp was abnormally high. it use to idle a lot lower and go to 70ish while playing games.

    Two things:

    Have you updated drivers recently?

Are your fans spinning/spinning at full speed? 100% fan speed should be around 4,000+ RPM. Can you post the RPM of your fan(s)? It could be that your bearing is worn out or the fan(s) was damaged during cleaning which can happen if you force it to spin via canned air.

From what I found on via web search, a 40% load is about 1,750 RPM for the EVGA 560Ti.
