Its not a case of overreacting, it is a move of grand strategy with internal implications.

That's probably the real reason why China is overreacting. They fear US more than anything and the relationship with Japan is giving China a "reason" to complain.

And it's two sides of the same coin. Japan just lost so they get all their dirty laundry aired.

Not to mention should anything happen our Navy would be there faster than you can say "Missile Launch Detected", and could manhandle any recycled Soviet tech China would throw at us.

Well during that time frame their few war crimes were mostly killing Japanese pows and civilians.

They may 'fear' Japan's good relations with US, but they certainly do not fear Russia or any other Middle-eastern country such as Iran for that matter.

...and these countries definitely don't mind China too much (in fact seem to have better relations with them).

China and Russia loathe each other.

They didn't use Japanese civilians as human test subjects for all kinds of crazy shit as far as I know.
The nerve is called the "nerve of awareness". You cant dissect it. Its a current that runs up the center of your spine. I dont know if any of you have sat down, crossed your legs, smoked DMT, and watch what happens... but what happens to me is this big thing goes RRRRRRRRRAAAAAWWW! up my spine and flashes in my brain... well apparently thats whats going to happen if I do this stuff...

The current generation's got nothing to do with Japan's acts back in WWII, just like current generation of Germany hasn't done anything against the Jews.

    I don't think that's the reason they're complaining.

    China's peaceful? Yeah right...

China's currently complaining because Japan is investing money in their military, that's what I'm talking about. They only use previous events as an excuse of complaining.

Could be argued as not the case if you consider how the economic benefits, which has been huge. You might say money is another matter, but why would you play down someone if they've got a lot to throw at you?

Which is exactly what you could say with the USA.

i really dont get how people dont get this. maybe they are just distracted by our attention whoring. if we could manage to shut up for a minute people would be talking about how the next major war would be between these 2 instead of thinking every possible confrontation would revolve around us and our shenanigans

It is so interesting to me how people who aren't part of groups of people that have some type of heavy recent oppression just tell those groups get over it it was 1-2 generations ago! As though those people aren't alive today.

Did I say China is peaceful, Japan isn't even a victim compared to whats going on at the Spratley Islands for example. That is where the US Navy should be if anything.

I said they got every right to react by peaceful means to the blatant symbolism displayed here.

Japan has reused other ship names from the 3rd Fleet, including Kongo. But is it intended to send a message? Yes. If for no other reason than it exists to counter China's sub fleet.

given how Japan has recently gotten (in my opinion anyway) a little cocky with their remembered nationalism. I can't say china should not be at the very least concerned given how both countries have interacted in the past. granted I see no problem having japan build an army.

China is being encircled and they're just throwing tantrums about it right and left. Pieces like this are regular. They just did one the other day about India's first indigenous built Aircraft carrier (37,000 tonnes, so small by US standards).

There is also a huge market in China for what we in the western world call Military Porn. Here, when the US unviels something new... like a new stealth helicopter or new fighter jet... the reaction typically is "oh that's cool. How does it work? How much it cost?". In China it's a subculture feeding frenzy of info, jingoism, and "leaked" images of the thing (often officially leaked to websites that specialize in this kinda thing). It's often coupled with slights about how it's incredibly, impossibly superior to anything else in the world.

Most notably that happened to China's D-21B "Carrier Killer" ballistic missile a few years back - the most overhyped gamechanger-that-isnt of the past five years that the US Navy is already extremely protected against.

Russia almost nuked china during the 70's, the chinese over ran russia's borders, I think it was nixon who diffused the situation.

You don't get it, do you?

The Japanese government today and the current generation nothing to do with their events back in WWII.

Not to mention Japan and US, despite pearl harbor and the two nuclear bombs.
