On Heroic Garalon one of our Warlocks was the last person alive and he Dark Bargained to finish off the boss during Enrage. The boss died at almost the exact moment that Dark Bargain fell off and ticked for over 8 million damage.
I don't know about closest to wipe kill, but I remember the closest to kill wipe I've ever seen was 300k on Oondasta.
Our first week on Gruul during TBC we had him below 1% but had very few up. I think we hit 1% with less than 10 (mainly healers) and that lasted for a minute or so before we wiped. The very next attempt happened the same way except we got him down with less than 5 people remaining and our protadin was the only one really doing damage.

0.2% Wipe on Heroic Horridon x(
Northrend Beasts in ToC25HC. Icehowl enraged and cast Massive Crash killing everyone but one mage who iceblocked. The mage and a shaman who ankhed then killed him while he was stunned after the charge!
I forget what encounter it was but we had one where the health showed 0% and he literally would have died with one more melee hit. ~10k health ><
Normal is the name for the mental disorder present in the majority of humanity.
Xinjun
my guild got Lei Shen down to something like 200k on 25man normal and wiped xD, the silence afterwards was just... well tense to say the least.
Osirrian the unscarred in AQ20, We all died exept a hunter and a holy pala. Hunter feign death after aggro, he swapped to pala, he bubbled, swapped to hunter and killed him, swapped to pala again, and last hammer of wrath killed osirrian and the pala at the same time. And im pretty sure we got ally first, mby even server first. I cant really recall.
But we all corpse runned laughing our asses off all the way.
Algalon 25-man. It was looking like we weren't going to make the timer and sure enough he started to cast Ascend to the Heavens when at about 3-4%. As a prot paladin I knew Ardent Defender would save me so I announced I would immediately start the rez chain for the next attempt. Imagine our surprise when not only did I survive but we were given credit for a kill since during the Ascend to the Heavens cast we finished off his health bar.
Last pull of my guild's raid last night, 1% wipe on 25m Heroic Lei Shen with ~20 million hp left
It would've been our first kill too.

In the company of thieves, liars, beggars and whores
I'll lay waiting, just waiting for my time to come.
40k on Lei Shen HC.
I had some "kills" in raids due the combination of DoTs and me sitting in an iceblock when the boss went berzerk (i.e. Festergut hc)
Without that, we once had a holy paladin killing Nightbane in Karazhan, doing the final 1% in his bubble while the rest of us was down.
And the newest "accomplishment" in this regard was one of our first Horridon hc kills... DDs started to die off one after another as both tanks were dead and we kited him through the arena. In the end, we had ~2 players standing.
Beth'tilac heroic back in Firelands. Was our second heroic kill after Shannox. We weren't well geared at all and had an awful raid composition. A miracle happened and we got through to phase 2 which was a lot easier, because whilst our comp sucked for killing stuff the raid buff synergy was amazing so on p2 it was a doddle.
Anyway, she berserked and everyone died but me tanking and our holy paladin. He bubbled to survive the AOE pulse, I used a CD. He kept healing me but I told him to stop and just hit it. The boss had about 400k hp at this point. He then died on the next pulse I believe but we had it down to about 200k. I bubbled at this point (and still had Ardent Defender left over) and had it down to less than 100k and the DOT's were still ticking from other people.
I died, but then according to WoL so did the boss... 0.014 seconds later. So it didn't have time to reset, and it counted as a kill. Yep yep, it all counts
Oh and another one - Rotface 25hc. Our first attempt. I was kiting the ooze as a paladin. He didn't berserk but when he was down to a couple of % people started dropping like flies. Was myself, the boss tank, a DK dps and maybe another 2 dps still alive. The boss tank died, the DK hit Icebound and survived a hit, I taunted the boss to give the dps a few seconds but the DK taunted him back because if anything it was reducing the raid dps because he couldn't hit it. I was still kiting this damn ooze, all the dps died and as the boss was running towards me I bubbled, hit it and chucked a Hammer of Wrath and the boss died. Sole survivor with like 20% hp remaining. Was fun.
Makes it worse is that the neck dropped and I didn't win it. How dare they!

First Heroic Chogall kill relied on our Mage Iceblocking long enough for Chogall to make it to the middle of the room and fall through the floor.
Hodir in Ulduar.
Last man standing: Holy Paladin. (wtf. O_o)

This tier, actually. Our first Council of Elders Heroic kill.
All 10 people alive, only Kazra'jin left. Our Healers were completely dry and begging for mercy, but we couldn't really have DPS standing idle to avoid the reflected damage, however, since Kazra'jin's shadow empowerment was murdering us. When we hit ~5%, people just started dropping like flies in a thunderstorm. 1 dead, 2 dead, 3 dead... wham, 8 dead. Two Paladins left, both tanks. Boss at ~4%.
They manage to DPS Kazra'jin down to ~2m HP before one of them dies. The 2nd one desperately tried to heal, kite and hit him whenever possible to finish him off, but it looked grim. However, for some reason, once everyone had given up, Kazra'jin suddenly decides to roll over even when he had 1m HP left. It took a few seconds for most brains in the group to register, but then TS went up in flames. Most hilarious kill in a long while.

In Heroic Zul'Gurub in Cata, it wasn't so much an almost wipe as it was a moment of pure epicness. My brother was a Ret. paladin and I was an Unholy dk. On the first boss (the venom guy) the healer, tank, and other dps died during the poison maze. The boss was at about 70% health. My brother and I kept on fighting after everyone told us to wipe and we eventually killed him. Probably should mention gear wise we only had dungeon epics, the main thing was we avoided all the poison and managed interrupts really well.
Meh, don't know how impressive that actually is but it did make me feel like a boss at the time.
