    To see or to hear?

Well its sounds like a silly question, but what would be ur choice and why?
For me this question goes way back (20years), when i start to listen alot of music!
I was (am) so hooked to music i thought by myself i would rather be blind then deaf!
Then 2 weeks ago i was playing with my dog and got her paw in my eye.
I couldnt see with that eye for like 2 days and the days(5/6) after it my vision was very blurry (back to normal now tho)
Normal walking was out of the question, because i was dizzy and so much more i couldnt do!
The question popped in my head again "To see or to hear"
After 20 y my mind changed on this.
So if i ever have to choose (hope i dont) "I want to see" would be my answer

    "Wich one would u keep?"

I clearly chose to see, but i'm deaf so i might be slightly biased >.>
Do have a cochlear implant though, so i enjoy music, though it sucks compared to normal hearing, it's good enough for me to have joined the same festival for 11 years in row now ^^

    Edit:
To me the advantage to seeing is you can walk on the street without worrying about a person not noticing you, bumping into you.
Can see if there's some biker on the road you want to pass,
Not getting tricked by an halfopen door, thinking it's open and bump into it,
Not making people feeling awkward if you don't look the right place (Though people tend to thing i'm overly drunk if i can't see what they say)

Disadvantages to being deaf is that you can't use the cellphone for other than texting,
youtube is annoying because it's rarely subbed,
not getting the full thing from music,
    radio/podcasts is no go.
some people you just have to give up talking with (bearded people, people the mumbles),
Live stuff in the tv is never subbed, so you miss the important political discussions, and have to see it the day after(Usually send when you're in school/at work)
This happens rather often to me, when people calls out for me; http://dandandan.net/

The ones who don't choose to retain vision are idiots.
    "Quack, quack, Mr. Bond."

I would keep sight. There's no way to simulate sight at this moment, while there is a way to simulate speaking; sign language. So in reality, you can still communicate without hearing and be a valuable member of society. Sight removes your ability to go places or see beautiful things. As much as I love music and hearing the simplest things, nothing can ever replace sight.

Vision, at least deaf people are not reliant on others just to survive.

    Too see obviously

To be in permanent pitch black darkness seems like hell to me

vision is a no brainer. but i have had my hearing impaired in one ear before, and the sense of isolation and disconnectedness just from that was terrible. permanent full blown deafness would suck ass. this is a choice between shit kabobs and shit casserole made from leftover shit kabobs imo

Life without music would be a fate worse than death.
I'd chose to retain my hearing.

Can I keep the vision in one Eye, and the Hearing in another ?
No - In that acase Ill keep my vision. Not being able to see things is a lot worse that not being able to hear them. Loss of hearing can be helped with visual clues, and text.

the workshop im in occasionally does classes, and one of our clients is a blind guy. yes, a blind dude building furniture. we've actually learned a few interesting techniques from him (most completely useless for a sighted person, but interesting nonetheless). a cool example was his method of comparative measurement (very important in woodworking, more important than numerical measurement) - a threaded rod with a nut on either end. dude comes up with some clever shit to work around his handicap.

    See.. It's too important.
The things you can do - Seeing vs Hearing. It's not even a fair competetion

Well... for the sake of these options I'd go with vision. However if I were in a position where I had to choose I'd go with death.

While I rely more on sound in everyday real life, vision has some perks I just don't want to give up:
Reading is simply so much easier when you don't need to use braille; most books cannot be found in braille anyway.
Roleplaying... Character sheets aren't in braille.
Computer games. Hell; computer games become unplayable without vision.
Movies. That should speak for itself.

When you're deaf, you can still read lips, use sign language... And even though movies will be less interesting without ambient sound and effects, you can still watch and enjoy them as long as you've got vision.

That's a pretty easy choice for me, and likely just about anyone else. Losing hearing would suck but it wouldn't make you completely unable to function. Losing sight, though; I'm not even sure I'd want to live if I went blind permanently.

Living without seeing would be worse, so I'd rather not be able to hear.

my vision is more important to me than my hearing, but my hearing is darned important too.

but overall, vision > hearing. i'd rather be deaf than blind, at least i can still read

This is basically my favourite question to ask people I am starting to get to know socially. For me it has always been to hear. I know from my experiences that my eyesight just isn't NEARLY as good as my hearing; have been in multiple professional choirs in my life, and couldn't tell a Monet from a Picasso (well I can but I'm using those two to proove a point - I have very little appreciation for visual stimulus). Shame you didn't add a poll, would have been very interested to see the results. I think nearly everyone instinctively says "See" as we feel far more vulnerable when we close our eyes than, say, when we deafen our ears with loud music in our headphones...
