Thread: What to do?

  1. #1

    What to do?

Just picked up the game, no idea what to do. Do I just grind out hearts until I hit level 80?

Really liking the combat so far but yeah I'm not sure where to start with the game.

Is there an elitist jerks style website with class guides?

    Wrong section?

You can level by doing almost anything in the game. You can level in WvW. That's what I'm doing right now with an alt.

    First off, welcome!

Now some questions you should ask yourself. What is your playstyle? Do you care about efficiency (fastest way to get to max lvl), scenery, story, reaching skillcap,... ?

This will greatly impact what you do.

Let's say you like hearts but hate vistas (mini jumping puzzles), it's perfectly viable to just go to each zone and do nothing but hearts but completing every zone (so also doing vistas) will increase your EXP gain a lot.

If you're looking for efficiency (for your first toon or w/e) one of the fastest ways to lvl is to go to the human starting area, queensdale (you don't have to be human for this) do some hearts and then follow the "champion train" a bit and doing the hearts you pass (don't grind them out though, just kill a couple of X while you're there and progress the heart a bit). You can easily get to lvl 20 doing this. You should also complete as many parts of the (PvE) daily as possible since those give loads of XP.

Once you've completed Queensdale go to Kessex Hills and then to Gendarran fields. You won't find Champ Trains in either of those areas but still try to do dynamic events when you pass them. If you've gathered a lot and done your dailies/events/map completion you should now be 36-38. You now get the choice of where to go. You either go to Harathi Hinterlands or to Blazeridge Steppes. It doesn't matter a lot what you end up doing.

Now you can grind away at your Personal Story, once you aren't being fast about completing the missions anymore (lvl 56-58) start crafting. Pick two crafts (preferably the cheapest, which you can check here and max them. You should now be 80 or very close to it.

    2. Depends on what you like

    3. No. Most guides out there don't involve any math on the level EJ does. There are some builds that are considered best but there still is loads of room for optimisation. You can check this website or guildwars2guru.com, reddit also has guides but they usually aren't worth jack.

If you're into theorycrafting (like me) you should do it for your own enjoyment. Hardly anyone cares in GW2 since you can effectively do all content regardless of your build.

So because you couldn't figure out what to do means it's horrible?

    Shocking, well not really.

I don't really know what to say about the site freaky fred posted. I mean, it's suggested there to go axe/mace and mace / shield for leveling with strength, defense , discipline, but that build sucks. Low damage, and ok-ish survivabilitty.
For some reason, I find sword / axe and GS with Str, ARms and discipline way better in terms of dps, but with kinda low survivability.
Does anyone have a better solution for leveling? I'm currently @ lvl 55 and have no idea what to do next.

ps: I'm talking about warrior leveling.

Stick with the offensive traits for levelling, don't worry about defensive ones unless for pvping. Use elite signet every time it is up and trait the 20% signet recharge. For utilities play it safer and take enough stun removal/condition removal/stability you are comfortable with, otherwise use Signet of Might and For Great Justice.

Main hand axe is the highest autoattack dps, just circle strafe everything and spam 1. Boom, dead mobs. What offhands you choose doesn't matter, it doesn't affect your dps, just choose the type with the skills you find most useful. Or just use greatsword all the time if you like big numbers with the 2 skill (though bear in mind the damage displayed is the total damage of all the strikes so far, which is why it looks so high). GS is nice for the burst and mobility but lacks in autoattack damage due to the slow swing timer and requires you to be still for the full cast of 100 blades. It's kind of down to personal preference what you prefer.

For war leveling theres some great traits you simply "must" have.

First off you have to decide on how you want to play. Zerg everything down asap (GS) or kill everything steadily (axe) I personally prefer the GS since while leveling there won't be much that can survive HB.

Then your first 10points should go into Tactics so you can pick up Empowered Allies. Then Grab 30 points in strength you want to get to Berserker's Power. 20 in arms is next and then lastly 10 in tactics.

Your second set should be sword+warhorn purely to move around asap.

That is actually a very good advice. Thx for the info
