Why is federal government exempt if it's such a good idea?

Because the federal government already has healthcare? Obamacare doesnt provide healthcare, it makes it cheaper for low income people and forces insurance companies to insure people they normally wouldnt along with some other regulations.
This would be true if the government would have placed a freeze on insurance rates to start with when Obamacare was first announced. Instead, they allowed the insurance companies to raise their rates drastically to where it is actually much more expensive now to get insurance than it was before Obamacare.
when all else fails, read the STICKIES.
Because it's FORCING people to not choose to want to live with crippling health care bills/debilitating diseases!
Duh, I mean who would actually want to go through with a surgery/treatment that would save your life or prevent you from being disabled for the rest of your life?

IIRC Congress was originally required to participate in the ACA, but after they realized this they cried about it (brain drain) and got their cushy healthcare back. And that dirty scoundrel Obama gave it back to them.

They did cap it, though in a rather indirect manner. 80% of revenue from premiums must be paid out in medical services, otherwise they have to send out rebates of the difference.
Also, the federal government is not exempt. Members of Congress and their staffs have to buy exchange plans, and 72% of that cost is paid for them under the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program.
Federal employees who aren't congressional staffers continue as is.

How do you think they increased their profits before? They raised the prices. Why do you think health care is so expensive in the US?
Now there is going to be more actual competition, and unless companies (illegally) collude together to fix prices, there should be a price drop as people shop around for a better deal.

Large employers are supposed to give their employees health care insurance. The federal government is a large employer.
Paul’s proposal — outlawing any special exemptions for government employees — would mean all federal workers would have to purchase health insurance on the new Obamacare exchanges instead of getting taxpayer-funded subsidies. Some critics say those subsidies amount to special treatment. The Obamacare health insurance exchange opens Oct 1.
“My amendment says basically that everybody including Justice Roberts — who seems to be such a fan of Obamacare — gets it too,” Paul told TheDC by phone on Sunday from Mackinac Island in Michigan, where he won a straw poll of potential Republican candidates for president in 2016.
