Advice on what parts to purchase

    Hey all,

So my parents out of the blue said they'd give me $800 towards a new rig, i'm looking to put about $700-900 in myself to make a total of around $1600

Here's what i've come up with so far, although it is the first time i've ever tried building my own (former imac user here)

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Code:
    CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($219.99 Newegg)
CPU Cooler: Corsair H80i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($86.99 Amazon)
Motherboard: Asus Z87-A ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($134.98 Outlet PC)
    Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($84.99 Newegg)
Storage: Toshiba Q Series 128GB 2.5" Solid State Disk ($79.99 Microcenter)
Storage: Toshiba 3TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($114.99 Microcenter)
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 760 2GB Video Card ($249.99 Amazon)
Case: Fractal Design Define R4 w/Window (Black Pearl) ATX Mid Tower Case ($79.99 Newegg)
    Power Supply: Rosewill 850W 80 PLUS Certified ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply ($89.99 Amazon)
    Optical Drive:Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer ($18.25 Outlet PC)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8 (OEM) (64-bit) ($95.87 Outlet PC)
    Total: $1256.02

look at the builds from the latest threads asking for a build in the 1500 $ area.. those builds will be maxing everything on 1080 p... what u build, my first crtique would be the power supply as u wont even past 500 watts with oc, so a 550 watts or a 600 watts will be plenty (ofc if ur not planning on sli in the future but u didnt mention it)... then u should go for 256 gb ssd and drop the 2nd drive to 1 tb... i still dont get how people can have so much stuff on their pc ^^ well but thats just me... and with ur budget going for a 760 is just a nah nah.. 770 is the go for

    Came up with this.

Changed the memory to something a bit cheaper.
Changed the SSD to a 250gb 840 EVO to give you more room and take advantage of it's ram caching feature(makes it a hell of alot faster).
Changed storage drive to a 2TB Barracuda.
Changed the GPU to a GTX 770.
Changed the PSU to a 550W as that is all you will need for a single-GPU setup.
    Cheaper optical drive.
    Added a IPS monitor.

There's about $40 worth of promo codes that end on the 30th, so you can either get it before then or wait till the month rolls over and see if any new promo codes/sales pop up.

tielknights build is just spot on, i personally would drop the 2 tb to a 5oo- 1 tb storage but thats just me... u cant go wrong with that bulld... it will last u at least 3 years

ah,.: switch the 770 to the msi oc version though... the new tf version is really really good... i have a msi 770 tf in my gaming rig and it never goes over 45 degrees celsius under stress test... just heard bad things about the zotac but that may be jibberish from friends who got some faulty stuff

770 is a waste with the R9-280X only days before release for $299. Essentially a better clocked 7970 Ghz with tons of better features (mainly Mantle). In theory that card should destroy the 770 in new releases down the road.
    i7-4770k - GTX 780 Ti - 16GB DDR3 Ripjaws - (2) HyperX 120s / Vertex 3 120
    ASRock Extreme3 - Sennheiser Momentums - Xonar DG - EVGA Supernova 650G - Corsair H80i

in theory yeah.. as mentioned in many threads before everyone should wait for the new amd cards release and wait for some reliable benchmark´s... but dont forget, if the new amd cards are launching and they really should be better ,nvidia will drop prices, making it as it always has been.. what games do u play and find out if they prefere nvidia or amd

Do you play games on a single monitor or across both?

And yes, you should probably wait for the R9's to hit the market as that should drive prices down some more as well as give you more options to pick from. Their new API(pretty sure thats what it's called) Mantle is supposed to give their cards a pretty damn big boost over Nvidia cards.

Seeing as you don't need a monitor that gives you a extra $170 to play with. Could get yourself some nice speakers/headset(loove them steelseries siberia's) if you don't have them already or grab some other peripherals. Or save it and maybe you can Crossfire some of the new cards(as long as it isn't buggy as hell).

Alternatively, he could simply upgrade to the GTX780/R9-290X.
