Are recent fashion trends just getting copied from Doctor Who?

I noticed it first in the late 1990s.

    1. The Third Doctor: The velvet jacket

    http://beyondthemarquee.com/wp-conte...on-Pertwee.jpg

These things got revived big time in the late 1990s. I partly blame it on Austin Powers ripping off / paying homage to Pertwee's entire look.

Ok, so this is where it starts getting weird...

    2. The Fourth Doctor: The Incredibly Long Scarf

    http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-egHmVRgPCT...+season+12.jpg

A few years later, Harry Potter books get really popular and the signature look is...a really long scarf....

    3. The Fifth Doctor: The Sweater / Sweater Vest

    http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...fth_Doctor.jpg

Here's Lebron James wearing a Sweater Vest with practically the same pattern....

    4. The Sixth Doctor: Clown Shoes

    https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/i...RiXEhUNFMBcOJt

Its difficult to get a good photo of the Sixth Doctor's clown shoes. But basically think bright neon wingtips.

Speaking of which....guess what is gaining in popularity lately...

So, what did the 7th doctor wear? What is coming next?

PAISLEY!!! Lots and lots of PAISLEY!!!

    http://www.classicdoctorwhoprops.com...ll_Website.jpg

Paisley tie. Paisley scarf. Paisley hankerchief. Paisley band on his hat.

Let's see if it happens again. Will paisley become wildly popular in a couple of years???

Please tell me this is a joke..

Long scarves have pre-existed Doctor Who, and the long scarves are in no way courtesy of DW..

The style of the sweater and pattern you linked has been around since about as long as the invention of tennis and cricket.

Is the girl in the first pic holding a penis?
'Twas a cutlass swipe or an ounce of lead
Or a yawing hole in a battered head
And the scuppers clogged with rotting red
And there they lay I damn me eyes
    All lookouts clapped on Paradise
All souls bound just contrarywise, yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!

That's what penises will look like when the rest of us catch on and copy the trend.

Yes. Didn't you know? We all walked around naked before Dr Who invented clothes.

Yes, but the existence is something doesn't mean it's trendy.

Speaking as a lifelong Doctor Who fan for over 30 years since the early 80s, all I have to say is this in response:

If you interview 500 or a 1000 Doctor Who fans who grew up in the 80s and ask them what are the top 10 things that define Colin Baker's 6th Doctor... I guarantee you that none of them will say "it's his shoes".

His coat alone has done a magnificent job in driving away ANY attention away from those shoes, as well as most of the plotlines as well. Nevermind his character's horribly-written personality and the poor writing.

The Fifth Doctor is wearing an English cricketing outfit/uniform. It's the equivalent of having a character in an American walking around in either a baseball uniform or a Poloing outfit.

I liked the 10th doctor's glasses more. The fez and bowtie thing were a bit weird to me me.

David Tennant was probably better known for his shoes.

Just because someone wares something that looks similar dosent mean their copying. That means everyone would be copying each other

Well, it's been one of the most popular shows in the UK for something like 50 years, so stranger things happen.
