Desperate Warlock needs help!

Hi I'm a (new) Warlock in need of help

I returned to raiding in July after a two year break, I was used to raiding semi-hardcore, always have played a hunter. I returned to my old guild and they took me back to raiding, in two years they have improved a lot, while I am rusty... like really really rusty. I rerolled Warlock because that was what they needed, I've nearly caught up to their gear but my dps is really lacking and I can't quite figure out what I'm doing wrong. I've researched quite a bit on how to play, I'm used to those things, but I can't get it quite right. Which means I have to sit out on a lot of the fights ofcourse.

I've been playing affliction since I got the meta which was when 5.4 hit.
My rotation(just following the guides I guess):
Keep dots up, soulburn-soulswaprefresh dots with powerful buffs like trinkets(I use affdots to track it) use haunt when my dots are strong or if I'm at 3 shards. Malefic grasp filler, drain soul below 20%, fel flame when moving. I save dark souls to combine with trinkets.

Not sure if I forget anything, but I really hope you can help.

I would go Destruction if I were you. It's better, particularly so at lower item levels.

Thanks for the advice, but the thing is I'm at 552 itemlvl :/ which isn't low I guess.

Thanks for linking it, yeah it would be nice to hear from someoe who is more experienced.

I've been comparing logs from similar fights with same fight lengths, the differences are usually small, but it seems they just cast a bit more haunts and get more dot ticks, also more malefic grasp. So I guess I should work on maximising that, which seems obvious, I don't know if thats all there is to it, but it's the only conclusion I've been able to draw.

Affliction is IMO reliant on the opener, especially cleave fights. DSM, Haunt, SBSS, wait for trinket procs (usually one MG) redo SBSS usually Wushoolays is around 3-4 stacks at this point. Then again before Synapse is about to fall off hit SBSS again, usually 7-8 of Wush. You should of gotten a shard in that time since you're at 0 shards atm. use Haunt which is around 9 Wush stacks then an MG should a full 10 stack Wush.
