Need help finding the right headset

So my old headset had it's plastic cable chewed by my weird cat. Cat's dig plastic. I'm in search of a headset that has a braided cable, or any non typical plastic cord, but that's also analog. I don't mind usb, but I'd prefer the option to just pull the mic or headphones cable when they're not needed. I have studio monitors and an external audio interface so I'd prefer to run it through that. So far I only know of the Logitech G230/430 but I would like so more options to compare. I'd prefer to keep it in the sub $100 range as I'd be primarily using it for Planetside 2.

Would you settle on clip-on mic?

Well, not really, I'd like to have headphones for when my fiance is doing work on the couch.

I recently moved to Razer Kraken Pro (green one) and I am 100% satisfied. Awesome sound, perfectly fits on head.

    Please disregard this message.

Anyway, like Vegas 82 said, decent headphones with a clip-on mic is a much better option in terms of sound quality.

Superlux HD 681 EVO works wonders with Zalman clip-on mic.

Is the clip on mic going to pick up background noise? What if I'm not using my headphones and instead have my sound running through my studio monitors?

Well, judging by the people I know to have a clip-on mic the backgound noise is slightly more audible, but the clarity of sound largely negates that effect. Though with 3.5mm mics the sound quality depends a lot on the sound card.

Ah, well, the biggest requirement for me is a braided or mesh cable as my cat chews through all plastic wires

Those headphones I linked have a replaceable cord, and it's standard 3.5mm. It's easily replaceable with a more durable cord either now or after your cat has found the cable to be an easy pray.
