What's the thing you worked hardest for in WoW?

Mine was probably my Sulfuras mace, that thing took way longer than I expected when I started gathering the mats and farming for it, what was intended to be a side grind, something to do when I was bored, turned into an obsessive thing that didn't end for way too long due to bad luck with drops and some misshaps with the AH.

    What about you guys?

Think mine was farming gold for 280% mount speed back in TBC... Farmed at Illidan's temple for Scryer's rep things... WENT SO SLOOOOOOOOW

I will always remember when I farmed for my first Ivory Raptor, old epic mount. I farmed SM with my level 60 warrior many weeks to get enough golds!

Some thing took more time but I don't really remember, I did too much in this game.

Mine was the stonecore mount, I ran it just shy of 400 times.

Completing the 8 piece prophecy set. Took me nearly a year. I actually went about seven months using only six piece before I one run, the chest and bracers dropped on the same run. The kicker? When both pieces dropped previously, I was the DKP leader for them, but being the nice guy I was, and had a good enough chest (the one from Zul'Gurub), and decent bracers, I passed on them to the next guy who needed them more than I. Obviously, that person stopped raiding a few months later. During Vanilla, priest stuff never dropped for my raid. Druids were 8/8 everything in a few weeks though.

I didn't like how pining for loot that way chained me to the game, and that was the last time I ever cared about loot, unless I needed it to perform well enough for my raids. Finishing that set pretty much changed the way I played the game entirely.

It was joining the realm best guild in vanilla, I had to farm hours a day to get enough pots etc to be able to raid with them and to keep raiding Naxx. So I had to first establish myself as a good/the best healer in my current guild and on the realm itself before I could make that jump. So when it comes to time consuming stuff that I've done in this game, it's farming mats for raidpots. Could never have enough pots, so failed that year in school even because I was only busy with WoW.
It set a goal in early vanilla to become one of my "heroes" I saw standing in orgrimmar (Yes pretty sad but I was what, a 13yo kiddie) so I always worked my butt off for things to improve my "realmrep". It was sad that at one stage I had to leave my guild that I was in since MC during AQ because a spot was available in the best one which my friend from CoD1 (played with him for years) was recruiting for, so I had to take it. Killed KT in the end and I wouldn't have wanted to miss it for the world, was amazing. My old guild also died a month after I left so I was pretty lucky to switch guilds during that time.

Was pretty competitive back then, in vanilla it was against the realm itself (did anyone even care about a top world race besides the #1 spot? I didn't hear about Nihilum until I heard they killed KT first) and in TBC it was fighting for top 10 world, whereas Nihilum was like 2 months in front of the rest of the bunch. Nowadays I'm just happy to kill the normal modes (in 25man, 10man blehhhh) and the competitiveness is totally gone, but I don't really care.

Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa's Rest. Took an entire tier to get, earned me some jealousy and lack of enthusiasm from guild mates , and was literally nerfed between the lockout I received it and the very next lockout. (This was back when 25 man raids got way more stuff, so 25 man raid groups were on staff #4 when I finished mine.)

Runner up: Skyclaw/Sky Golem. I saved up the mats for the Sky Claw when MMO-Champion reported on it, only to have Blizzard pull it for an entire couple of patches.

Yeah I remember the Prophecy race, funny that I played a pvt realm some time ago and I think only the Prophecy legs were amongst the BiS lists, you had chests from Strat Ud that were 3 times better than the T1 one. Pretty funny that back then we all cared about DA EPIX and didn't give blue items that were much better a single look (at least I didn't).

Either Shen'Dralar rep, Goblin rep to exalted (which I then threw down to hated by getting honoured with the Bloodsail), or Ravenholdt, I did all of that (except Revanholdt before the insane achievement was even implemented).

During TBC I dedicated a lot of time to silly things, I remember killing like 3000 furbolgs in 1 or 2 days for Timbermaw. I spent a lot of time just grinding shit, good fun.

280% mount in TBC (after BT launched, before IQD made money easy). It was seriously insane, or I am just over-remembering the difficulty. Your flying mount went 60% so it was 95% useless to gather any nodes ( but needed it to get to TK and to dailies areas). Daily quests were heavily biased to certain comps/builds, and my protection warrior simply could not do the dailies without my buddies.

Then again, nothing in WoW has ever felt more satisfying than sitting on that 280% mount the first time and realizing I am moving as fast as the game allows... Nowadays, even on a reroll starting w/0G I know I will get 310%, no hard work needed.

I worked pretty hard for some of the rare mounts I've gotten, but the things I remain the most proud of is getting Champion of the Naaru and Hand of Adal. Perhaps not the hardest thing I've done, but I feel so happy that I have a sort of memento from my time in TBC.

Don't think I could say one in particular, but my rep grinds! The countless hours I've spent Killing mobs or grinding whatever rep item I could hand in, jesus lol

I started late Vanilla, just before TBC arrived and only decided in WOTLK I was going to start farming reps. I remember the announcement of ZG being removed as a raid and thinking, I gotta grind the crap outta that before it goes! Still not got around to "Insane" but most of the way there anyway apart from Bloodsail, but I'm happy with my "Beloved" title and a few more reps to boot, can't wait to see what the next title will be for ..uhm 75 reps?

Heroic Ragnaros before the nerf. I think that's because it was all compressed into a stupidly short amount of time, it was the first time I nolifed WoW.

The nether ray from Terrokar maybe. I don't do time sinks much. If it was gear it'd be all the heroic gear I had during ICC on my hunter.

I think I had a moment of true revelation during TBC - if I could get the fast mount, I worked out how to make a lot of money and to sustain it for years. So for about a month, I mined and I mined. Often seeing players on fast mounts, yet knowing something they didn't, I carried on, even as they beat me to every ore vein. It took a long time, I questioned my sanity, and failed that but once I arrived, I bought the fast mount.

Years on and with millions in bank, it was worth it. But I really had to get past that stage, at least during TBC. Soon afterwards I was able to pay some people to mine for me and then pay some botters I guess, bringing in thousands of ores every day into mailbox and then I started major operations in all things Wow Gold.

    Shame it's not real money.

Special mention for 400+ Baron runs too, still no mount.

Farming the pet oozling in felwood at level 60 for 15hours a day becuase this pet you can use in c'thun stomach and when you took him out, you would lose the debuff and you could stay in there the entire time haha win!
