I see what you mean. Cata felt less dire to me, however. Deathwing's presence didn't seem as looming. The outcome if he would have been victorious sure, but the zones lacked connection (aside from geographically; I'm talking story, etc). I didn't feel nearly as much of a hero in Cataclysm as I didn in Wrath... more like a sidekick, or even just a pest.

Also, to all those that said Wrath was easy, I'd beg to differ.
Compared to TBC, sure I'd say so.
People complained about Cataclysm being hard, but some of Ulduar and really most of ICC (without buff especially) seemed harder to me than anything in Cata. I downed Deathwing in a very casual, low-skill group; however, Lich King was difficult for even very stuctured guilds... And Putricide... And Sindragosa...
Dungeons got more complicated and longer, which thus made them harder, I'll admit.
One of the biggest factors for me that I'd forgotten until now is a lot of the class homogenization (especially interrupts). I hated that. Keep in mind this is all my opinion
WotLK>BC>I don't know... I think MoP gameplay is better, Cata gameplay was atrocious, but I don't really like the MoP story very much.
The only good thing about Cata was Heroic Rag. WoW fell off in mid wrath. Killing LK was way harder than LFR/Normal DW in Cataclysm too.
Wrath for sure. TBC was second. I genuinely feel they ruined Cataclysm's potential to keep their faithful Wrath players.
I look at Cataclysm like I do Gates of Discord, "the worst EverQuest expansion". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EverQue...tes_of_Discord
I liked Wrath, but the Wrath hate was HUGE when it was current.
WOTLK. When raids were puggable, it was super fun to play. Undead theme for an expansion is great too.
The environments and music of Wrath were just too good. BC a close second though.
I genuinely enjoyed WotLK. I had been playing since Burning Crusade, but had never gotten into raiding because the requirements in terms of gear and organization seemed extremely high (I was about 15 and my playing time was very restricted, plus I was just plain obnoxious and unlikeable in my early-mid teens). By WotLK, I had learned to play properly, Heroics were much easier, and my hormones had calmed down. The transition from Regular Dungeons to Heroics to Naxxramas and Obsidian Sanctum felt very smooth, and I had a good guild. I've never had as much fun as I did progressing through the various raids with a group of pleasant guildies or other players (without LFR, LFD and CRZ, I assume it was much harder to be a jerk, what with you being constantly within blasting range of all your fellow raiders.) Then came Cataclysm, and from there I gradually lost interest in WoW for reason that are still beyond me.
Lorewise Wrath wins hands down, but gameplay wise MoP has them all beat. Its not perfect, but if you had two games come out right now, and one was wrath and one was MoP i have no questions that MoP would be more successful barring any theme bias.
BC was best nostalgia,
Wrath was great for meeting friends for me
Cata just holds the most memories and therefore can be a contender for best ,as I did have a blast for the first 6 months of that expansion.
I actually started playing the winter before AQ. Cataclysm was very fun, but I didn't really like the main boss nor the over-silliness of Uldum. Felt like they threw a huge chunk of lore out the window in favor for Harrison Jones' lulz adventurez. Dungeons were interesting though, Worgen were amazing with their starting zone, Garrosh called Sylvanas a bitch, Wildhammer wedding quest, Sky'ree had a child gryphon, flying in Azeroth, redone questing and dungeons.
As far as the raiding goes I found them hit and miss. Starting raids sucked a bit but Firelands and Deathwing were pretty fun. The last 3 dungeons were great too, going back to the Sundering neeeeeeeeeeeeerrddddddgaaaaaaaaaaassmnnnnnnnnnnnnnn.
Pandaria was the worst expansion, every time it got interesting it had to piss in its own pants by force feeding me some more crap about pandaria. Legendary quest was a joke, fetching items each patch woo hoo, reward is a cloak lol. Thunder King raid was fun though, haven't completed Siege yet, LFR groups are still being r-tarded atm.
While I am voting Wrath, I have to admit I haven't even touched MoP yet - so I can't compare that to the others.
But Wrath - my god... that, to me, was the true golden era of WoW!
Liked Vanilla
BC was good...
Wrath? Holy shit... 10x amazing! ^_^
Cataclysm?...... ugh....
Started in 06, caught the tail end of Vanilla, which for me was getting a feel for the game. Didnt really level any character past level 40, mucked around being a noob for a couple of months and then BC came out.
BC for me holds all the nostalgia, all the memories. it was the first time i raided, and felt like i understood the mechanics of my class and how to play. It was also when all my friends were actively playing with me. I chose BC on the poll, as personally its my favourite, it was when i truely fell in love with the game and felt that magic.
Wotlk however probably should go down as "the best" expansion in terms of timing and what it brought to the table. Fine tuning quests, mechanics and everything from BC, Wotlk still retained and gained the sub base, had moments of the same challenging content that BC held (albeit facerawl heroics and godaweful ToC etc). My friends still played, but at the end tended to leave the game around this time, so its a mixed bag for me. Aesthetically and thematically, i dont think Wrath has been matched even by BC.
Cata. Cata for me is when the innocence was lost in a way. it just felt like it was a questing hub/casino roll game. The magic wore off and i tended to look at the game as a bunch of numbers, rotation memorisation and not an escape into a different world. Still enjoyable, but in a different more logical and skill based way. hard to explain, but Cataclysm took the shine off the apple.
MoP is fantastic. take my hate off to Blizz for what they have done to change the way the game is played. Personally, after a year or so of the expac so far, im getting tired of the theme...but i am still a loyal subscriber who is enjoying the content.
TL;DR: BC for personal fave, Wrath for historical best
mvallas, mop is like eating a cake with a spoon made of silver, but every 2nd or 3rd bite someone just flat out bricks into your face.
Wotlk is clearly the winner wow didn't see that coming. If you said that you thought wotlk was good on here during wotlk you were practically begging to be lynched.
Hi Sephurik
BC had been my favorite until recently. I think it's been long enough to know that, for me, BC is just nostalgic but Wrath was the best expansion overall.
Idk why this made me laugh so hard. Probably the fact that I dont agree with any of these points but more so that anyone could believe that this awful expac was better than the others(excluding cata).

You're not missing anything man. Dumbed down version of Cata with an oriental theme set around cuddly pandas.
Whenever I start to think the community is turning a corner, tradechat is always there to prove me wrong.
I tend to remember expansions for how well they immersed me rather than the technical improvements they brought to the game.
TBC preserved the vanilla feel quite well, but was still a big step up and felt amazing due to that. It gave us this new land and all its creatures which stood in such stark contrast with Azeroth. It felt really awesome, at least for the first half. The classic TBC half, where you raided Karazhan, SSC, Eye, and Hyjal. Gosh, so much content back then.
WotLK gave us simply amazing environment design. With very few exceptions, I loved Northrend to bits. Music, landscape, mushrooms, mist effects, icebergs, ambience. Nothing could beat that first time you take the ship to the Howling Fjord, slowly approaching that ancient land, with the Scandinavian music playing. Or wandering beneath the pines of Grizzly Hills.
Cata gave me Vashj'Ir, easily one of my favourite zones ever. So I won't dismiss it. But I'll admit that I never bothered with any endgame, and played very little during its lifespan.
MoP initially disappointed me, and so I didn't play for most of it save for the initial questing after release. But I've started again and I really like it. Pandaria feels a bit less dynamic and genuine than Northrend or Outland, granted. Its built under the new era of Blizzard where content is a bit less complex but easier for newcomers to understand. But either way, I like it.
Overall, WotLK is my favourite.
