Sounds like a fun trip to me. The bedpan thing seems a little gross though.

Well, what else are you going to use? They only stopped for a total of 46 minutes (refuelling) through the entire trip.

They did it to some guy who raced the west side highway and then uploaded it to youtube, whether it will hold up in court, I doubt it.

Next time you get stopped for speeding or the like, tell that to the cop.

In my home town it's illegal to discharge a firearm in the city limits...except at a range of course. Not because it's going to hurt someone everytime but there exists a real chance someone COULD get hurt. See the connection?

So really somebody does something cool and as gamers the first thing we say is, clearly he's a habitual speeder lets impound the car and ticket the owner.

Honestly if your not a decrepit 80 year old your reaction time should be more than adequate for driving 100ish mph on a clear non windy day. I drive close to these speeds all the time and I've yet to wreck anyone. In fact I'm 100% sure people who follow all the traffic laws have had more accidents than I have. (which is 0 btw)

Look at it this way, if I ever do wreck. I'll probably be dead and you can view it as population control.

That's all good and well. I'm not worried about the people who speed killing themselves. I'm afraid of people who drive recklessly taking out my grandmother.

Also I don't assume he is a habitual speeder, or should his car be impounded. I just merely stated that driving at that speed is probably unsafe.

I don't see a problem as long as you drive situationaly appropriate.

Ie if there's traffic you don't drive 100+

If I hit triple digit numbers its because I'm on the road by myself or I just broke away from the pack of ridiculously tightly packed cars.

And breaking 60 in city driving is just asking for trouble.

Going to go ahead and bite on this one. It's not your reaction time that is the problem(and honestly that's one of the first things people resort to when they've been drinking and say everything will be fine), the problem is also relying on everyone else's reaction time which may or may not be as good as yours. It's asking for something to happen if you go blazing down the highway dodging everyone else. Now what happens when people start looking at the idiot that's breaking the law and they get too caught up looking at you and not looking ahead?

Also going to go ahead and assume you do not live in the US because unless you are driving in the desert you will have a cop on you or more than a handful of people between you and your destination. The moment someone tries to pull that kind of speed in anything more than a small town here I can guarantee they'll have a fleet of cops on them. It's not your safety they care about(which is what you only seem to care about), it's the safety of everyone around you who may not be able to react as fast as you.

I'm not saying you are guilty of this, but I've noticed a lot of people also tend to overestimate their own skillset.

    Arrest him.
And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him.

I can agree with that. It's hard to quantify.

You can only go on anecdotal evidence after all.

Looks like the boys at Gas Monkey Garage will be crying about this one. They held the previous record.

Their Top Speed seems a little low, well for a cannonball run.

So, if someone stands outside a movie theater and starts shooting bullets (harmlessly) into the dirt, should they not be arrested because nobody got hurt?

You arrest people in situations like this to show that you won't tolerate such behavior. One person drives across the USA in 28 hours and other people start thinking it's a good idea. Bam, somebody gets hurt.

I don't think he did something cool. I think he did something childish, stupid, and dangerous. If he'd set the record for running or biking across the country, I'd be impressed.

How the fuck did he get all the way accross the country averaging 98mph and not get caught? That is mental. Also 28hours is a long time to be driving and it's dangerous to be driving without sleep after that ammount of time in the best of conditions, averaging 98mph is just mental.

It's cool and all and I love fast cars and racing more than most, but I'm amazed they can brag about this and not get arrested.

Indeed, fast cars are fucking cool... on tracks! Well, organized road races are cool too.
