Russel brand may have started a revolution.

    http://www.trueactivist.com/russel-b...on-last-night/

From a fan of his, he seems pretty straight and 100% behind what he's discussing here, I particulaly like the random dilvulgence of paxton's beard.

Anyone else interested in this conversation other than me?

This is the guy that lives in a multi-million dollar mansion he got by earning profits on his overpriced crap in the free market, isn't it? Yeah - he'll be worth listening to when he gives every penny he's got to the state. Until then he's just another limousine liberal hypocrite.

Gonna have to start voting now so I can be sure I have nothing in common with Russel Brand, thanks a lot.

I had no idea who this guy even was...

Then the Riddler spews out a reaction like this..

Now I know it's got to be something good and am now compelled to read up on Russel's ideas with a very open mind.

    Thanks! ^_^

EDIT: I take that back... I do not agree with this Brand's idea of "not voting".

I've got many friends who "don't vote" believing that one or the other candidate is useless... and to that I say to them "You're NEVER going to get 100% perfect match to you. You CAN, however, use your vote to move the ship 1-degree closer to what you want. Vote 179 more times and you've now done a 180 turn!"

Why didn't you earn profits that way? Were you busy saving lives? I doubt it.

If he donates 1/10000000000th of his profits to anything, he would have effectively accomplished more for that cause than you (or any regular civilian) ever could no matter how righteous you are.

Brands ok I guess. I hold a far stronger respect for sir Stephen fry. He's brilliant, he's a regular gentleman, really funny, highly intelligent with a cool wit, has gone at length about the problems with religion and how human rights are effected, and his discovering of his ancestors from back in ww2 was heartbreaking.

He won't start a revolution. You may get a slightly lower voter turnout, but those that voted for those they've supported for decades will continue to vote. I respect Russel Brand for the way he articulates his opinion in a debate, but in this case the subject of him starting a revolution is very much overstating the power of his words.

People are horribly apathetic when it comes to politics, so not voting isn't going to change much, or change things for the better, as politicians will just be even less motivated to make the effort for the random voters who aren't decided yet. Politicians aren't going to be concerned if voter turn-out dies down as it makes their job of bullshitting everyone easier, and any promises they break will have less of an impact on their popularity because the voters are those die-hard ones that vote labour/tory/libdem because they've always voted labour/tory/libdem.

Vote for a minority party if you want to change things. Having a minority party suddenly become a threat for one of the big three would be a much more daunting prospect than simply having the voter turn-out die down across the board. Just make sure it's not one of those scumbag infested ones like the BNP or UKIP.

I also have a hard time believing this got on the news and not some tabloid on TMZ where the people that watch it don't really care about politics all that much.

Pretty much exactly what I was going to say. Webb's reply should really be read by everyone.

Brand might mean well but he's succumbing to sensationalism if he thinks revolution is the answer. If you want change, take part in the democratic process.

The planet is not being destroyed. Additionally, his economic ideals would impoverish everyone.
And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him.

1/ Its shorthand for "the planet is becoming uninhabitable for life". Which it is becoming, due to us.

2/ How does evening out the amount of money everyone has impoverish people? Hint: it doesn't.

He's not starting a revolution. He's calling for one (presumably non-violent), however. Which I agree with.

As for note voting, I also agree somewhat. Why legitimise a system that you disagree with, especially when you're essentially endorsing people who never can be relied on to be honest or just? Its essentially asking you which thug you want to be beaten up by, and then criticising you for complaining when you get beaten up regardless.

Socialist. There's a difference, though few people realise it.

The planet is not becoming uninhabitable for life. Short of nuking the entire surface of the planet (and even then life will most certainly continue), the planet will not becoming uninhabitable.

When you remove the reason to produce (need), you will impoverish all. Money is only representative of product, it carries no inherent value. A world of millionaires where no one has reason to work as the product of their labor will be seized and redistributed is a world of impoverished millionaires.

Vote blank, shows you support democracy but don't feel any of the electives are fit.
