    Rent Backed Securities?

Can anyone explain this to me?

After the mortgage backed securities fiasco, they are actually doing rent backed securities now? Does this seem insanely stupid to anyone else, or am I just misunderstanding things here?

The problem with mortgage backed securities wasn't the concept, it was the execution. Assuming they can keep out the rampant fraud that was underlying the MBSes (and disallow re-securitizing traunches) might not be any problem with rent-backed securities.
