Dad Deemed Unfit for Not Taking Son to McDonalds

    http://nypost.com/2013/11/07/psychol...cdonalds-suit/

So a court appointed Psychiatrist told the judge that the following exchange made a Father completely an unfit parent and that he should be denied even weekend visitations:

The Dad wanted to take the son (4 year old) out to their usual restaurant, but the kid wanted to go to McDonalds instead. They argued and the Dad told the kid he can go ANYWHERE else but McDonalds or no dinner at all. The kid had a tantrum and said no dinner.

The Mom immediately took the kid to McDonalds.

The Dad is currently suing the Psychiatrist for a gross misdiagnosis.

Tbh taking your kids to McDonalds should be deemed unfit, not the opposite. Let adults put shit into their own bodies, not their kids.

Maybe he is allergic to not having burgers for lunch.

Can't believe that. Makes no sense whatsoever.

I am horrified. Maybe my parents just hid it well but I don't remember them ever arguing over something like that and one caving like so... Unfit parent for refusing to fill your childs arteries with a timebomb? Fantastic. Get it turned over whatever fine who cares but I'm more concerned about what is going to happen in that relationship because it's just a stupid argument and fighting parents (over something as ridiculous as McDonalds) is going to hurt a kid more than a cheeseburger with extra atheroma.

The parent is willing to feed his kid food OTHER than McCrap and he gets called a unfit parent? What a crock of shit- that's how it was when I was a kid, you ate all of what was put in front of you and you better show some damn appreciation that you even get a hot meal- Emperor above knows how many kids don't. It's this mentality that "Giving" everything you can to your kids is healthy for them while in most cases the opposite is true.

Case in point, my four year old sister stayed at my house for a night-, I cooked whole grain rice, spinach and some freshly caught kingfish for dinner and she threw a fit because she wanted microwavable mac'n'cheese. After sitting at the table for forty minutes she finally ate it because she was getting hungry. Her grandmother picked her up the next day and when I mentioned her little tantrum I got scolded and told "That wasn't necessary, easy-mac' only takes a few minutes." Which dumbstruck me, because in all honesty it's the adults that fuel that shit- giving in to the demands of children? Parents are fallible, don't get me wrong, but sometimes you should give your kid a swat on the back of the head and tell them to quit their bitching and deal with what they have.

Being bossed around by a child. A simple lol is not enough for this one.

Except that's the whole point of this story. The one guy who didn't get bossed about by a child has been made out to be some evil horrible person who wants to starve his child.

Sounds like good parenting on the dad's side, to me. I remember when growing up, the rule was always, eat what you're served or go hungry. Part of being a parent is not indulging in every whim of the child.

Why? Parents make the decisions, not the kids.

Pissed off children are shit heads and I fondly remember trying to play my parents against each other. Of course they weren't divorced and it worked only occasionally when they couldn't talk to each other for whatever reason.

Maybe the kid told his mom that his dad simply refused to feed him?
My younger sister used to manipulate them both- pretty darn well too. Shit, she would come home on a Sunday night and complain to our mother that she didn't eat dinner so she could get a Hot Pocket, to which our mom was later shocked to find out that our dad made us a great home cooked meal that she simply refused to eat. Would have been more difficult for her to pull off if either of our parents would talk to each other post-divorce, but shit, they couldn't both agree to come see me graduate, or ship out, I doubt they'd be able to sit in the same church for the significant otter and I's wedding..

Having the kid be the main line of communication in a divorced home is a wonderful idea.

This has to be the most ridiculous story I have read in quite some time.

It embodies a huge portion of what is wrong with this country. It isn't just the idea of giving into a rotten child's demands, but the fact that you have to spoil them in the first place to win custody.

Going through a divorce/custody proceeding? Spoil that kid rotten, or you're going to be made out to be a shitty parent regardless.

Such is life when lawyers get involved.

Giving in to a child who is throwing a temper tantrum teaches him that throwing a temper tantrum is how you get what you want. It's not unlikely that the child will grow up with some character flaws as a result of that.

What so you should give your child what they want when they ask for it every time? Because if so that's fucking stupid. And if not, just "do it occasionally" then that's smarter, but the parent in this case decided this was one of the times to say no. So what's the problem? Otherwise you have to say yes every time, which I repeat, is fucking stupid.

I get the distinct feeling this is not the whole story. It reads like tabloid journalism and I suspect the level of research is as deep as one would expect from such a piece. I would take this one with a mound of salt.

Sad but true. The article actually quoted the Dad about how he was not worried that he made the wrong parental decision at the time, but that the Mom would use this against him (which is what happened). He later though he should have taken the kid to McDonalds because of the divorce.

So he came to the conclusion that he should have been a bad parent and indulged a tantrum because of the divorce proceedings. :P
