His popularity is slowly fading, and he see's that he isn't getting the same attention he was accustomed too. That and he has grown into a spoiled brat who has the mental strength of a block of wood so that doesn't help him much. Sum it up as him having enough money to bribe his way out of any trouble and being immature to boot.

On topic, the 'pop stars' maintain a very short term popularity. As time goes on however, allot of them chooses to cause major controversy due to the young age they became extremely popular. Their mind is simply not capable to deal with the situation of downtime where they are not on the first page every single day. Older more experienced actors, musicians and other celebrities handles downtime better. Justin Bieber has entered the inevitable decline in popularity. There will always be some people who will cling to him, but soon he will be forgotten by the general population.

The word "lately" implies that he wasn't at all times a slimy, sleazy little twit. Bieber was never anything but a punk. As he has gotten older he - like Miley Cyrus - has become MORE of a sleazy punk. But he was always a sleazy punk before, so this is nothing new.

Best explanation in this thread so far. Miley is going through a similar trajectory, it's a fight to remain relevant. It's a calculated business decision, likely made by Bieber as much as by his team.

Performers are under constant pressure to keep bringing something fresh and new to stay in the spotlight. They cannot play it safe. Usually, they go against type. If they are branded as a boy band / boy act, they might slowly amp up the shock factor and become more wild and crazy.

An example is Michael Jackson. Michael Jackson became a mega superstar as a friendly, likable kid with huge talent. But to stay in the spotlight, he had to change and begin to act more wild and crazy. So he grew his hair long, wore dark clothes with chains, and began to scowl. He started acting bizarre. Before you know it, perception changed and he became wacko jacko.

Beiber's career may go in the same direction.

Considering all the envy he gets from the internet virgins, I'd say that could be one of the big reasons why. Then again, I was never interested in this dude's career, so for me, he is almost non-existent.
