Is there any alcohol I'd like..

So long story short is I've tried numerous times to drink over the years with friends and I totally despise the taste of alcohol. I've tried everything under the sun you name it yet I can't acquire a taste for it. I enjoy the social aspect of drinking and being buzzed with friends but it really is a chore for me to drink. I literally have to do shots just because I can't stand the taste over and over. I guess it is a good thing I save a ton of money not drinking but just seems like I"m always the downer who don't want to go drink or drink at parties.

I know alcohol isn't supposed to necessarily taste wonderful I just don't understand how people can drink things just on ice or sip it. I'm confused I almost feel like I'm missing something lol. How do people like that taste? I know I'm probably a wussy but still I'm lost

    How about beer?

If it's hard alchohol you're after I find gin and tonic with a lot of lime to be delicious. Southern Comfort and lime is also amazing. I should say, this is coming from a person who hates the taste of whiskey.

I would suggest buying liqueur's made from fruits you like. They usually have a taste of that fruit depending on the strength of the drink. Or maybe you could drink cocktails, cocktails never taste of alcohol too much. which is a slight problem as you can easily over drink when drinking them.

Don't drink the stuff they are drinking then. Try the Mike's Hard line of drinks. Will get you just as drunk if you drink a ton, but actually tastes somewhat decent.

And it can taste wonderful. Case in point: Hard Cider.

Well most "girly" drinks or flavored drinks are designed to taste better with sometimes less alcohol, so you can get the social aspect of drinking and enjoy some without the shit taste of beer. I'm with you, OP. I've never cared for beer, and straight alcohol just isn't my thing.

That being said, I've tried a few drinks over the years that actually taste pretty good as long as they're made well (aka you don't go to some cheap bar because they won't be used to making them). Hurricanes, Long Island Iced Tea, and Long Beach Iced Tea just to name a few.

    Brilliant.

Derp derp nowhere did I say it was peer pressure. I said I enjoy the social aspect and the buzz I have gotten when I force myself to drink. Force being the keyword due to taste. Thanks for the worthless post none the less.

I'm a little confused. You say you've tried pretty much everything under the sun but then in your last paragraph you talk about sipping drinks or having them on ice, which leads me to believe you're talking pretty much exclusively about spirits.

You do realise that there are alternatives to say, having a tumbler of whiskey, right?

Actually try different things. Here in the UK there are countless types of ciders that come in all kinds of fruit flavours and you can't taste the alcohol content in any of them. Try different beers, obviously you've got your generic lagers like Budweiser, Coors, or you could try more traditional ales like Newcastle Brown Ale. Try out mixing your drinks too. I personally hate having vodka straight, but I can drink a vodka and coke no problem.

Basically, just get yourself out there and actually experiment with different things instead of just saying you have, when obviously it's not the case.

Yeah I can tolerate Long Island Iced Tea. That is usually my one go to lol. I've been the beer route can't handle the taste nor smell.

Vodka/Redbull is pretty great, you can mix in quite a lot of vodka before it tastes strong (like 4:1, or even 3:1)

Well good point. I'm refering to spirits. In regards to trying everything I meant in the since cheap/super expensive rums, whiskey, gin, vodka, tequila. I've tried the flavored ones also. I went to a beer place here with some friends who are beer nuts and tried countless lil samples that you can pay for they come in lil sets. We do have a ton of micro brewery here also.

Assuming you're not doing this because you feel like you have to in order to fit in (a terrible reason to do anything), then drink alcopops. There's plenty of alcoholic drinks with a strong fruity taste, which completely mask the taste of alcohol. All the tipsiness, none of the taste.

That said, don't be afraid to stay sober while your friends drink. I mean, I never drink personally (no real moral stance, I just don't want to and am usually designated driver), and I still have a ton of fun with my friends. A lot of the time people comment on how 'drunk' I act when I haven't had a single drop of alcohol; it's because I can let loose without the need for inebriation.

It's a good way to be, and if you can do the same then I'd recommend that over forcing yourself to drink.

I'm kinda on the same boat. Alcohol is great ice-breaker, makes socializing easier. I also hate the taste of alcohol, which have driven me to try various beverages, but the vast majority taste horrible to me. Gin Long Drinks have been tolerable, so I have drank those.

    Gin Tonics (good ones)
    Vodka Tonic
    Vodka OJ.

    These are you best bet.

You make a very good point about letting loose. I do enjoy the buzz and the idea of finding something I can like to enjoy while watching sports per say. I never have been forced or pressured into drink. If anything my friends appreciate that I'm the free taxi lol.

In that case, it could just be that you don't like spirits. Some people love them, some people hate them. There's nothing wrong with not liking it, generally I avoid any sort of alcohol that's 35% or over unless I have a decent mixer to go with it.

It sounds like you're in a really sweet place to experiment. My only advice is to get yourself out there and enjoy it. You're bound to not enjoy all of it, but I've got no doubt you'll find something that you do like.
