Canada is smarter than the US

According to this new study by OECD, Canadian students rank among the smartest countries in the world while the United States rank more or less in the middle. The average for Canada was 518 while the US scored an average of 481. Here is a link to the study: http://www.oecd.org/pisa/keyfindings...s-overview.pdf

I think for how much money the UK and the US spend on education those results are atrocious.

Or you know, you could make more accurate, less sensational claims. Like Canada has better public school education than the US.

The sad thing is that's entirely true. I don't know how this works! Instead of attempting to logically break it down, I'll just Google the answer on my smartphone!

Consulting JavaDoc or even code examples really isn't the same though.

It's partly because people are OK with just having the answer rather than understanding WHY the answer is what it is.

The public school system is also garbage in Canada. Trust me, I studied there and I did not learn much.

HR is by and large the biggest obstacle any budding IT nerd is going to face because they don't have a fuckin' clue and if your resume doesn't check off all of the obsequiously ridiculous requirements for a job that doesn't need them, you go into the trash bin.
