    Imperial VS Metric

I wonder why the rest of the world hasnt caught up with the US and adopted the Imperial measurement system, and its a shame Ireland had to drop it when they joined the EU (big mistake in my opinion). The metric system requires people to remember tons of suffixes and prefixes, from milli, mega, exa, peta, kilo, etc.... Which is hard for kids to remember. The Imperial system you just have to remember the numbers you already know (hundreds, thousands, millions, etc..) Its so much easier to use the Imperial system as every knows a mile is 5280 feet. Hardly anyone knows how many meters are in a mile because its complicated to calculate.

Plus when you go to McDonalds a Quarter Pounder with Cheese, sounds much better and yummier than a 113.398 Grammer with Cheese

I'm always impressed by your ability to get things almost exactly wrong. It's like performance art at this point.

Why is it called the Imperial system, if you've never had an empire?

You're right. Remembering that there are 100cm in a m and 1000m in a km is way harder than remembering 12 inches in a foot and 3 feet in a yard and 1760 yards in a mile...
    /sarcasm off

What the fuck are you talking about? Of course hardly anyone knows how many metres are in a mile just like few people know how many feet are in a kilometre....
If you're comparing the easiness of knowing 5280 feet in a mile, the proper comparison should be the easiness of knowing 1000 metres in a kilometre.

And you're also wrong because i'd be willing to bet that most people who use the metric system know that a mile is 1.6km or that there are 1600m in a mile(closer to 1609 really).

I'm wondering why the US hasn't dropped their far inferior measurement system and adopted the far superior one. Same as most things that are far inferior in the US, I guess.

This is easily solved by just not using miles and using kilometers as the measure of distance. Imperial system is colossally fucked up because there is no standardization and everything has seemingly random conversions.

Imperial is so shitty and counter intuitive that it even fucks up your math skills.

If a fat kid falls in the forrest and no one is around do the trees laugh?
You're an insignificant speck of a person sitting on an insignificant speck of a world orbiting an insignificant speck of a star in an insignificant speck of a galaxy. Literally, no one cares what you think.

One more thing US do in a strange way is calendar date, it is logic that you use YYYY-MM-DD as 2013-12-14 but US use MM-DD-YYYY that is relay strange....

And do not start the mess of ton... they are short ton long ton and "real" ton

Doing a century in Imperial is so much more rewarding than doing one in Metric.

Yeah, but a double is a lot more feasible in metric

It gets insane fast though. Hey let's go do a quadruple, or a quintuple.

    These comments a thousand times.

Everyone who goes into the sciences has to relearn their entire systems of measurement.

Imperial is also counter intuitive. The perpetuation of imperial is arrogant, kids on a playground shit, but honestly it's humanity soooo.

Yes that's absolutely annoying. Normal conventions is to go from smaller(shorter) to larger(longer) or vise versa, but apparently they just go with some arbitrary order. It is confusing when reading some dates unless it's some obvious case like 8.15.2013.

Basically the older people don't want to change their ways after having learned the imperial way, and when they die theres a new group of old people who have used it their whole lives.

Also there is the issue that a mass change would require some expense as every government based thing that is in imperial measurements would need to be altered to at the last include metric (like speed limit signs, etc.)

Britain uses both, e.g. road signs are still in MPH. Not everything has to be changed.

It's baffling how many people are taking this thread seriously.

    Go Imperial or go home
