Sounds like he's either sexually frustrated or socially retarded or both. Who hugs their teachers? What also seems weird to me is the teacher doesn't seem to have stopped it before it started, as they should have. Then later reports it as sexual harassment instead of simply establishing a boundary with the student then and there? Fishy / shitty teacher. Not surprising. Teachers in this country are garbage.

Maybe you should read the article as well as watching the video...

He should have been expelled for that.

That according to the teacher, she had previously warned the student that hugs are inappropriate, and that according to the teacher, the students lips brushed her cheek and neck.

    Uh...yes. Absolutely.

Really... so he assaulted her by forcing his arms around her? The teacher is a moron to allow her student (over which she has authority) to continue to violate her personal space after asking him not to. That or she is a liar.

This kind of thing hapens and next thing you know someones getting raped. Keep your hands to yourself, people hugging each other in high school is ridiculous anyways, just a way to cop a feel.

It seemed a bit inappropriate, yes, but a year suspension seems way to harsh. How about a sitdown with the kid, teacher, and possible the kid's parents first? The article lacks many details, so maybe they had already done something like that. But still, a year? Why not something a bit more...normal? A few days or a week or something like that. He doesn't seem violent or anything, from the video anyway.

Totally unacceptable. It's a damn hug! I have hugged my teacher too during the last year of School as I would probably never see that person again and she has been part of my life for many years.

I can barely get my friends, who respect that i don't like being touched, to not hug me at times, let alone a guy that walks up behind people and hugs them "because i do it to everyone and no one cares". Let me stress that: he walks up BEHIND them. Not easy to block a grab from behind you when you don't have a clue it's coming.

Assault is physical contact you don't want. Certainly walking up behind someone, wrapping your arms around them, and (allegedly) brushing your lips against them counts as assault.

Misleading title, but def grounds for suspension. Anecdotal, but I've hugged plenty of teachers, male and female, without such contact.
Sig/ava made by the amazing Elyssia! ♥

It was definitely a sexual hug, not a good friend hug.

I hugged all my teachers before I left school. I understand why he got suspended but a year seems over the top.

An unwanted hug is sexual harassment, just like a man looking at a woman's low neckline is sexual harassment, just like HBO showing non flaccid dongs on straight males is sexual harassment.
"Gamer" is not a bad word. I identify as a gamer. When calling out those who persecute and harass, the word you're looking for is "asshole." @_DonAdams
When you see someone in a thread making the same canned responses over and over, click their name, click view forum posts, and see if they are a troll. Then don't feed them.

Odd but no reason to suspend him for so long or at all, seems like she is a stupid bitch that just wants drama.

You need to chill seriously. I don't know what school you went to, but I've seen dozens of teachers give hugs to students even up to High School.

Oh, of course, i mean why would she have any say in the punishment?

Reports it to superiors > They decide the punishment.

If you'd of read the various articles, the student was being VERY "Creepy".

Judging by the fact that he's been suspended, I'm going to go ahead and say that she DIDN'T allow him to continue.

If what's been said is true and she did warn him that such an action with her was crossing the line, then the punishment seems acceptable to me. If what's been said is false, then of course the punishment is unacceptable.
